Well, actually it was the Mongols (Genghis died and his son continued to expand the Empire) .... but I'd give you your answer.
OK yeah, I can see the empire pretty much doubled in size after his death, but I think we can agree that Genghis Khan was the brains that united the Mongols and got the ball rolling.
