AFAIK, in 2003 "The Clear" was not illegal, nor was it even classified as a steroid.

In athletics (and boxing presumably) the list is a guideline which covers molecules similar but not exactly to the ones on the list - since it would be easy to just add a small dormant group which would give the drug a different technical name but maintain the exact same effects. This is exactly what Balco did with THG, modified the moleule slightly so as to be undetectable with conventional testing while maintaining the same benefits.

THere are numerous eye witnesses. Including Larry Merchant and representatives from the California Athletic Commission. AND there sending the plaster out to be tested!!! Sounds like they have a little proof.

I think the post has substance. The negative cultural comments are not cool ( i personally would start another thread apologizing for that), but I can understand a fanatics concern about something like illegal hand wraps being used against other fighters.

Utterly pointless. The commission will review an accusation like this with the caution, which is the only way to proceed in an orderly way.

All Im going to say,he had best pray those tests dont come back positive. Ive dealt with the California Commision,and they dont have much of a sense of humor about something like this. And while normally he could just let the license in Cali expire and get one in another state,the head of the the Association Of Boxing Commisions Region 1 Panella has even less of a sense of humor about this sort of thing.
If that comes back positive you probablly wont be seeing Tony for quite a while

Here is what we know:

Lampley kept saying the same shit over and over and over about his hand wraps. No evidence. I find if funny that HBO boxing (which seems to think it is necessary to inject drama into everything) didn't show this "cast." Because nobody had cameras of any kind in the dressing room..... yeah right.
So what we have is Lampley (I guess beauty queens don't require hand wraps) unilaterally making accusations to an entire camp who doesn't speak english on broadcasted television. That my friends is a tragedy. Lampley is the true cheat.

Further, Margarito didn't fight with this alleged "cast." When something that was probably more mind games requiring Margarito to rewrap his hands 3 times puts a question mark over an entire career is really sad. It is sad to think boxing fans could be that naive or so fair-weather.

Finally, Mosely is no saint himself. Being the subject of a steroid invetigation, even if Margarito did use something illegal, it is not as if he was using it on someone who was above doing anything to get an edge on an opponent.

Now, regarding the wraps, yes I am a huge Cotto fan, but I also have made it clear that I am also a fan of Margarito's, I picked him to win this fight by late stoppage, and I gave him his props after he beat Cotto, however, if the commission finds that Margarito was trying to cheat, how can any of you say that us Cotto fans don't have the right to question him doing it for the Cotto fight. As well as any Cintron fan, etc, etc...

You say that there is no evidence, but there is, the boxing commission confiscated 2 pads, one from his wrap, and one from the room. Now I am hoping to God that they are just normal gauze pads, but, if they were obviously just normal pads, the commission wouldn't have seen fit to box them up and take them. I have to think that there was something there that made it seem fit for them to take them as evidence.

And it wasn't just Lampley talking about it, go to every boxing website, they are all reporting it.

Again, I hope to God that this is not true, it would put a big question mark on Tony's accomplishments, but if it is true, then Tony should be penalized accordingly.

True. and these folks should realize the outcome most probably would have been the same even if the 'handwrapping' controversy isn't exposed. I don't think these plaster of paris shiit would have made him won tonight. Not at all. Does that make his punches more accurate? NO. Does that make his punches harder? Maybe. Probably. Great point. From a boxing perspective results like this just show how styles make fights. Cotto beats Mosely. Magarito beats Cotto. So surely Magarito must beat Mosely ? I actually thought Mosely would win this fight, not by TKO, but by points. You put Magarito in with a top class boxer who will give him movement and angles and throw flurry of punches and he’ll lose. His much vaunted chin was nothing. He has no skills, what so ever. To think people actually thought he had a chance against Mayweather (lol)

OK, if that's an accurate description, and it certainly sounds reasonable, then point taken. I suppose the issue then becomes whether or not Mosely really understood this aspect of the rules/list, at the time.

Doesn't take away the fact that Shane fought the fight that Cotto should have fought, I never thought Cotto would spend so much energy moving all around the ring, he didn't have to do that. Shane fought the perfect fight, Margo wasn't doing enough hand wraps or not.

But again, that doesn't make it a non story either.
