They're a peoples that are believed to have originated from the highlands in modern day turkey and then went on down into mesopotamia if I recall correctly...been around since like something 2000 BC, so definitely before the romans ever came into existence and before the etruscans too. They eventually succumbed to the babylonians and persians as did most anyone else in the region.
