Dan Rafael reported that if Edwin Valero wins, he is not obligated to continue the tournament and very well may opt for a different fight, since he is a Top Rank fighter.

otherwise, it is a neat PPV concept.

Why the hell would we pay to see a all these guys fight?

Casamayor - finito, well past his best
Katsidis - needs to get a Win b4 PPV
Jesus Chavez - knee injury will come up again for sure, he 37 and well past prime, too
Barrios - can't win against top level opposition past 6 years
Pitatua - well past prime. how he got that KO last fall I will never know.
Hernandez - same story, too old, too late
Diaz - can't nearly dish out the punishment he can take

So the average age of the fighters is... 33.25... that is rather high imo. I don't see everything working out for all these fighters to be on this card, but I may just have to give in. At least these guys don't quit!

I'm not a fan of this tournaments sponsored by Golden Boy Promotions... I see it as a one time event without any significant continuation...

Look at the World Cup tournament among nations sponsored by GBP, after the Philippines trashed Mexico by a score of 5-1 last August 2007, it's been forgotten... They should have held a World Cup event every year... There's lots of match-ups like Philippines vs. Puerto Rico or Philippines vs. Thailand or Mexico vs. Puerto Rico which is a huge event...

The World Cup thing would make sense if it was a team sport, but it's not.

Not sure really what GBP's final objective with this World Cup thing... Of course GBP wants to make money from this tournaments...

Back to the lightweight tournament, I don't think GBP will have the enthusiasm to continue promoting it if Valero or Julio Diaz will come out on top...

Another thing, they said the winner of the tournament will have a crack on JMM-Juan Diaz winner, how about Campbell-Funeka? Are they left out from this whole thing? Also there are too many boxers involved and I think it takes at least a year to crown one winner...

I think this lightweight tournament is just a one time money making rip off by GBP...

I'll still pay for this of course, but for once I actually agree with you, the tournament should be

    JMM \_________
    Diaz / \
    \__________
    /
    Campbell \_________/
    Funeka /

That being said it's worth it to me to see Katsidis, Barrios, Casa and Valero.

You do got a point. Especially about a potential Campbell/Funeka absence. But a tournament does clear up who's really a contender and who's not

Who ever wins the JMM vs Juan Diaz fight will be the Lightweight Champion, so I think that is the logical opponent for the winner.
