Dawson vs Tarver Cancelled

Boxinginlasvegas was just informed by IBF/IBO champion Chad Dawson’s trainer, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad that Chad has sustained a hairline fracture in his right hand and that the March 14th rematch between him and former champ Antonio Tarver has been postponed. Further details will be posted as they become available.

No, not Thank God. Because the fight is only postponed, not canceled. Dawson still owes Tarver the fight per the rematch clause. That means rather than getting it over with, it will have to be rescheduled and we will have to endure Dawson wasting his time later rather than sooner.

Was the rematch clause an immediate rematch or can Dawson fight someone else and then fight Tarver? If so, who should be Dawson's next opponent?

Hopkins wants nothing to do with Dawson. Adrian Diaconu is fighting Silvio Branco and assuming he wins and Glen Johnson beats Judah, Glen Johnson will fight Adrian Diaconu. Leaving Zsolt Erdei, Clinton Woods, and Hugo Garay as possibilities.

It wouldn't be a smart move for Kessler to step up to Dawson at the moment, if he is the real deal, which with his recent choice in opponents is beginning to not look like the case, he should clean out his division. The problem for Kessler is that the most exciting fighters are already spoken for: Froch is fighting Taylor and Bute is fighting Zuniga. Leaving Sakio Bika and Karoly Balzsay and Allan Green. I would argue that he should take a tune-up and fight the Taylor/Froch winner, but he already recently fought two tune-ups. He could fight Allan Green on Showtime if Bika or Balzsay aren't available...

Tarver should have a rematch with Woods, would earn some cash and keep 'em both busy, and the winner can have Dawson. Won't happen but worth a try.

You know what I have to give Tarver credit for being 1 of the best salesmen in boxing. There are alot of rematches in boxing that need to be made or should have been made but never happened. But for some strange reason this rematch almost and or still might happen but an injury postponed it for now. And I can't believe HBO actually was going through with it. The 1st fight was to me the changing of the guard because Dawson boxed circles around Tarver. If any rematch should be made then it should be Dawson vs Glen Johnson. Hell if there was 1 person that deserves rematches then it is the Road Warrior himself. Johnson vs Tarver III, Johnson vs Jones II, Johnson vs Hopkins II even Johnson vs Woods IV was more deserving . Glen gets shafted or more like avoided then any fighter out there right now. He said it right, I'm not the best but I'm just the guy that will fight the best. Well Glen it is to bad that the best is afraid to fight you.
