Thumbs up youve gotta hand it to pavlik

Not 4months after getting butchered by hopkins he manages to get the weight back off and immidiately challenge the mandatory opponent in his home town.

Could quite easily of spent another 2-3 months with the excuse that he had to get himself back down to the weight and mentally ready after such a heavy defeat but has instead put his money where his mouth is and chucked himself straight into the deep end.

Anyone thats seen rubio will tell you this will not be a lockett type blowout and kelly is gonna need a performance to take the win.

But one thing we definitely could never label at pavliks door as i do at various others (cough: cough David haye, antonio margarito) is that he is gunshy!!
    one dangerous horrible bloke

err.. Haye and Margarito gunshy? Think you're looking for a different word mate.

The theory about Pavlik's weight is a bit off too.

One of the MANY excuses given for his defeat was being too small at 170. He weighed only 171 on the night which is what he normally weighs for middleweight bouts.

I cant wait to see the ghost back in the ring although he got spanked by B-hop, it should be a great double telecast by Top Skank.

Excuses given by his fans I assume because in interviews Pavlik is quick to tip his hat to Bhop and doesn't make any excuses. Actually, he appears to be one of the more respectful top-level boxers out there.

Yeah I dont see him being too light being the problem, he just couldnt work out how to hit Hopkins and was too hesitant.

Toney would be a better fighter at heavyweight if he weighed in as a cruiser

His trainer, Jack Loew, said he was unhealthy with a bad arm, bronchitis (or something like that) and should never have fought that night

And I believe him. The transcrpts from his dressing room and prefight all suggest it. He still would have gotten wupped by Bhop...that was a masterful performance in exploiting a straight line fighter. Pavlik was swinging at a fighter that wasn't there in front of him, while getting hit from all sides like he was surrounded.

I still feel he was under the weather tho, and could have done better. Hope to see it next time out...and hope he has worked on his lateral movement.

Yeah, I think this thread is confusing. Margarito and Haye gunshy? Thats news to me. And Pavlik isn't exactly going right after King Arthur. Thats his only real threat at 160. But I do think Pavlik is a good guy for boxing. I don't knock a boxer for taking on less than great fighters here and there. They need fights that allow going back to the drawing board. But lets not make it something it isn't. Pavlik didn't get terribly punished by B-Hop he just got outboxed silly every round. His boxing style is straight up and down so he was bound to have trouble against a wiley B-Hop. He'll be okay and he'll have Rubio out of there.
