That kind of overconfidence won't do him any favours
Not the best attitude to have this early. Reeks of later complacency to me.
What is it with young, decorated, British amateur boxers who turn pro with a damn attitude?
We've heard Amir Khan talking his shit - He got a nice leveller to bring him back down to earth by Breidis Prescott
Derek Chisora - Does not know how to conduct himself in an interview and says 'I have nothing to work on - just power shots' and becoming heavyweight world champion soonThen calls out Audley with the reasoning that it will be a big 'payday'. Hasn't a clue...
Tyson Fury - ''I'm 5 x better than any heavyweight in the world today''. Are you serious?? After one fight?? Then his dad says he would have beaten Foreman and Michael Spinks with ease - AFTER 1 FUCKING FIGHT
Now James De Gale?
These guys all need to be humbled and realise that they just aren't that good! The pro ranks are a completely different ball game. At least get to 10-15+ pro fights before you start tooting your horn about how you're the best thing since sliced bread.
These guys make themselves sound like tools..I hope that they mature and quickly for their own sake.
not really seen any Degale interviews yet but surprised he has said this . You'd think he'd have seen whats become of Audley and (potentially) Khan hw would keep his mouth shut and put some graft in first
Don't bully fat kids - they've got enough on their plate
Im always amazed at how some amateurs look at going pro as no big difference before even having one fight. Or thinking that just because a fighter has been stopped he doesnt have a good chin. Believe me you feel the punches a lot more as a pro, and this changes your attitude in the way you approach a fight, you cant be overconfident. You cant get away with a lot of the things you could as a amateur. More amateur standouts had a couple pro fights and called it quits, than went on to be champions. The objective is different as a pro. Pro experience is a lot different than amateur experience.

Psalm 144: Blessed be the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle
Well i was undecided about De Gale but i think that quote has just made my mind up.
I reckon theres a good bit of new talent come from the olympic squads. A couple that could go all the way,
But i have a gut feeling De Gale is going to have no power what so ever, i may be wrong but i think after watchin the way he punches hes not guna hurt anybody that can take any kind of a shot, and he wont be wearing head gear so who knows if hes even got a chin, hes certainly got a mouth.
People say Calzaghe slapped? It looked like it at times, but thats fukk all compared to DeGale. And he cant even blame countless broken hands for him doin it. I think its cuz hes got so little power its just not worth it in amateur boxing so he addapted that stye for some reason, maybe to reach a little further and score points.
I suppose bein a Brit i should be up for him but if a mans a twat hes a twat and people dont like twats. So i dont like him
Agree completely ukansodoff.
Watching him at the olympic's I said to myself, 'This guys style isn't gonna be suited to the pro ranks'
I believe guys like Sutherland and George Groves will make the transition much more readily because they carry power as well as decent boxing ability.
I could be wrong, we'll have to see.
I used to know J back in the day when I boxed for a bit at Trojan and he always was a bit cocky, but was still a cool guy. I will root for him because of that,I think he recognizes that most of the hardcore boxing fans have it in for him anyway going by the net so thinks why not just let 'em hate me because they'll still watch. I would like to say he could go all the way, but havin sparred with him when we were teenagers I can't see it, simply because I can't see his power having improved that much. I can understand from that quote though why you guys would think he's a cock
It'd be a refreshing change if a decent British amateur turned pro and said something like "my number one objective is to win the British title and we'll see what happens after that." De Gale is getting one and a half million for his first roughly sixteen fights. I expect Warren to keep him well away from anybody remotely dangerous and try and steer him towards a vacant WBO belt, followed by a Sven Ottke-style title reign. That's the best-case scenario for that guy. I'm certain before much longer I'll be dying to see him get sparked every time he fights and from what little I've seen of him I don't think he'll get to legitimate world level.
I don't like his attitude but he's a fantastic boxer.. the only bad things I could say about him is he runs away a bit too much for my liking.. if the olympics is anything to go off. He also doesn't seem to have much power, although I suspect that would come gradually as he develops a more pro boxer stlye.
Cocky or not I'll still support him, but that doesn't mean I have to like him. I'd much rather see Frankie Gavin do well.
and this is why we pour scourn on our own kind (sanchez take note)
I really don't know when things changed with this attitude.Actually let's all blame Naz and the Ingle gym
Kirkland also summed it up.
It's one thing to maybe think in private you could go to the top, it's another thing to come out and say that when you've never had a professional fight. Because yes, you come off sounding like a dick and a good crowd will turn out to see you get knocked out.
