The WBC president said he thought that relinquishing the title at this stage was “foolish” but added “if that’s what they want, what can I do.”

I think it is foolish for Sulaiman to say that. But if that's what he wants to say, what can I do?

It was a paper title anyway. There was no reason for him to have it, specially when he is fighting for the REAL Junior WW Championship. And I bet the WBC was going to charge him a sanctioning fee for fighting Ricky Hatton as they have been doing lately to their champions in non-title fights.

You guys bashing Saulimon, wait until Pac fights Hatton. Saulimon's words may prove to be prophetic.

I really don't see how this could be a bad career move for Pacquiao. For one thing it shows he is fully confident of victory but regardless; win or lose he shouldn't have any trouble landing a fight for the title again if he chooses to go back down to 135. If anyone in that division won't fight him it's because they don't want to get beaten up certainly not because he doesn't bring a WBC title to the table. Is Suliman really going to deny him the chance to fight for the strap again because of this? I doubt he could from a financial standpoint.

I just would've preferred it if he'd vacated it some time ago so the belt could be used for other fighters in the division. Nothing against Pacquiao, but apart from JMM there weren't really the fighters for him to want to fight moneywise in that division, & JMM would chase him up 175 if he had to

I guess Top Rank boss Arum suggested to PAC to vacate the title so that Valero (another Top Rank boxer) versus Pitalua will be upgraded as a regular WBC lightweight championship fight...

PAC also left 135 for 2 fights (Hoya and Hatton) and I think it's high time for him to give up that title...

Anyway if PAC is successful against Hatton, he will get 2 new titles in a new division, the Ring and IBO 140 belts...
