How many awesome cruiserweights have gone on to be title holders in the heavyweight division?
Array
What I am saying is that the overwhelming majority of cruiserweights who move up to heavyweight get their asses beat down......I'm just trying to help lessen the blow when the time comes (and it will come) where David Haye gets KTFO.....and it doesn't even have to be by Wladimir or Vitali
I can only think of one other unified, undisputed champion who moved up to Heavy Weight.
I'm sure you know who I mean.
edit: and before anybody goes off on one - I'm not comparing haye to Holyfield, just pigeon holing a little answer to Lyles irrelevant question.
(Irellevant because haye is not Holyfield and vice versa... he is his own man and obviously should be judged as such)

Well Lyle can I just educate you please? There was once a Cruiserweight (back in the days of 190lbs limit) called Evander Holyfield. He became UNDISPUTED Cruiserweight champ (like Haye did) and then moved upto Heavyweight (like Haye did). He then proceeded to make waves in the division (like Haye is doing) at a time when the division was in a better state than it is now.
Now in them days a genuine champ by the name of Mike Tyson was ruling the roost but decided to take on an easier option than Evander in the shape of James "Buster" Douglas (a limited fighter, kind of like Arreola and Tony Thompson but better). That's when disaster struck though. Tyson clearly underestimated Douglas and was KO'd in one of if not the biggest upset in the history of the sport.
Anyway next thing you know Holyfield gets his shot (as Haye himself one day will) and totally flattens Douglas (as Haye would to either Wlad or the next person to KO Wlad) and becomes Undisputed Heavyweight champ (something that Wlad will never be).
So people want to see this little CW take on the Bully Tyson but for various reasons the fight gets delayed a few years. Anyhow the fight finally happens and everyone (except me) is saying that Tyson is going to kill Holyfield and what happens? Holyfield KO's him
Unbelievable I know! Surely this was just a fluke so obviously Tyson had the rematch setup (just the one mind) and what happens? Well Evander is schooling Tyson again so Tyson fouls and is DQ'd.
There is quite a lot more to the story of this other "awesome cruiserweight" but now you know some basics I'll let you look it up for yourself.
Of course to compare Haye with Holyfield would be wrong. Totally different fighters, Haye has far more power than Evander ever had but Evander's chin is way ahead of Haye's so styles are different!
P.S. Lyle if you want anymore lessons I'll be more than happy to oblige!![]()
Evander Holyfield is the ONLY cruiserweight to ever win A TITLE at heavyweight.....the only one EVER and he just happened to be a great fighter and I may also add that he had 0 losses before he moved up as well.
James Toney would be another example but after testing positive for drugs a couple times so that disqualifies him.
Sure RJJ was never a cruiserweight and neither was Foster but had RJJ fought a dangerous heavyweight he would have suffered the same fate as Mr. Foster did. Michael Moorer also never was a cruiserweight champ so he doesn't count as well AND he beat the only cruiserweight champ to become heavyweight champ and then faded into oblivian after getting KTFO by an ancient George Foreman.

Yes but Lyle the Cruiserweight division is very young and has only had 3 undisputed champs and for the majority of it's lifetime it has had to compete with GOOD HW's like Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield (former CW), Bowe, Lewis and Vitali.
Yes Vitali is still going but for how long? He's 37 now and surely will be on the downward slope and Wlad just cannot be mentioned in the same breath as the above mentioned fighters!

How about I school you? That former Cruiserweight Holyfield actually "earned" his title shot in the ring! The hell you say! No, no. It's true. Holyfield actually got in the ring and fought tough veteran contenders James Tillis (38-13) and Adilson Rodrigues (35-2). Than he decided to face former champions Pinklon Thomas (29-2) and Michael Dokes (37-1). Can you believe he still wasn't finish? Fellow prospects Seamus McDonagh (19-1) and The Destroyer Alex Stewart (24-0, 24 KO) were next. How many times did he lose you ask? None. He beat them all and earned his shot.
Now this guy your comparing to Holyfield. David Haye. What has he done? He beat a shot Monte Barrett and has run his mouth none stop. And for that he deserves a title shot?

This is A Forces excuse for the sparring
Audley gives more details on sparring session with David Haye in 2006.
25 February 2009
AUDLEY SPEAKS
I wanted to give some more details about my sparring session with David Haye and why I say he took liberties in trying to blast me out.
After my first lost to Danny Williams, my confidence was low and I went to Miami to hook up with Lennox and try to get my mojo back. I was with my training team and had just signed to fight Dominic Guinn for April 14th. It was early March and we were running along the beach in the morning and we bump into David who was training there and was also running. We talked and as David was nearing the end of camp for his fight back in London, we agreed to speak later as we didn't want cool down.
Bear in mind, I hadn’t done any boxing specific training since December and I was really looking to get my fire back and utilise the advice of Lennox. I believe it was 2 weeks later when Lennox told me he was leaving town and wanted to see me spar before he left town. We arranged for a novice pro who was in the gym to move around with me and we set it up for that evening.
David called and asked what I was up to and I told him what was planned for that evening. David had never come to my gym before while we were there, he trained elsewhere.
He gave no indication that he wished to come to the spar, so I never expected him and Adam to turn up and ask to spar. Regardless, I said no problems as I thought it would be good for Lennox to have a look at him (as far as I’m aware, David nor his side kick Adam had met Lennox before this day).
I did 3 rounds with the novice and then David stepped in. I noticed he was jumping up and down and looking really animated. It was 2 weeks away from his fight and he was at the end of his camp. Round 1: David came out throwing combinations, 3 and 4 at a time; I was so slow, I couldn’t even keep up with him. Wave after wave of punches came my way; he wasn’t holding back. I kept my guard tight and looked for an opening but couldn’t get off. The onslaught continued for 3 rounds and I hardly landed a shot on him.
My team looked at me like what the f..k was that about?. Was I embarrassed? HELL YES! Lennox said not to worry, as it was my first spar and that I’ll get better. Unfortunately, this set the mood for camp and I never got off first base. So that’s another reason why I want to get David in the ring, as I believe his actions on that day impacted my whole training camp and I boxed Dominic Guinn still low on confidence. I will say this, David has never hurt me all the many times we have boxed; I don’t think he can say the same.
In Rocky 3, Apollo Creed helps Rocky gets back his mojo and does what true friends do and helps him re build his confidence. I got there in the end by myself, but I should have seen David for what he was then. If you really look at David’s set up, it has got A Force written all over it. I have given David so much and have wanted nothing in return. The student may be the star today, but he has forgotten who his master was on his way up. Well, like in Rocky 5, the old master still has some game, so if you and WLAD do not happen, I’m here and waiting.
A FORCE

OK so there are no good challengers (I disagree of course but I'll humor you) so boxing should sacrifice the career of an up and coming fighter just so we could have the chance (because there are no sure bets) at an exciting fight?
All the people who don't want Haye to fight Wlad yet don't hate David Haye (just his fans) they just want Haye to build a resume at heavyweight before he ruins his career...Holyfield had 6 fights at heavyweight before getting a shot at the title and he fought top level fighters (the type that David Haye seems to be avoiding).
Holyfield fought: James Tillis, Pinklon Thomas, Michael Dokes, Adilson Rodrigues, Alex Stewart (undefeated at the time), and Seamus McDonugh.
People want Haye to have something on his record that says he is a good heavyweight before he gets a title shot. I want Haye to do well in the division because Wladimir does need a rival in the division, it would be good for boxing.
I just want Wladimir to get the full respect for whipping Haye's ass and it WILL happen.
I think haye needs a few more fights too... I just take issue with you saying that haye 'deserves' to fight a guy who just lost to a tubby old cabbie and has came up short every time he's even tried to remotely step it up.
You've just contradicted your self... giving us the resume of everybody who Holyfield fought and beat enroute to the title ex Champs... top ten fighters... undefeated fighters etc... and then you're saying that haye DESERVES Fraudley Harrison?!?!... He should be fighting the likes of Sam Peter etc... but Audley Harrison? Give them man some respect for fucks sake
But like I keep saying Haye isn't Holyfield and the Heavyweight division isn't the same as it was decades ago... It's fairly Irrelevant to compare them.
