Just another obvouis reason for Sulaiman to step down. It appears that the man just doesn't think before he opens his mouth.

The WBC president said he thought that relinquishing the title at this stage was “foolish” but added “if that’s what they want, what can I do.”

I think it is foolish for Sulaiman to say that. But if that's what he wants to say, what can I do?

It was a paper title anyway. There was no reason for him to have it, specially when he is fighting for the REAL Junior WW Championship. And I bet the WBC was going to charge him a sanctioning fee for fighting Ricky Hatton as they have been doing lately to their champions in non-title fights.

You guys bashing Saulimon, wait until Pac fights Hatton. Saulimon's words may prove to be prophetic.

I really don't see how this could be a bad career move for Pacquiao. For one thing it shows he is fully confident of victory but regardless; win or lose he shouldn't have any trouble landing a fight for the title again if he chooses to go back down to 135. If anyone in that division won't fight him it's because they don't want to get beaten up certainly not because he doesn't bring a WBC title to the table. Is Suliman really going to deny him the chance to fight for the strap again because of this? I doubt he could from a financial standpoint.

I just would've preferred it if he'd vacated it some time ago so the belt could be used for other fighters in the division. Nothing against Pacquiao, but apart from JMM there weren't really the fighters for him to want to fight moneywise in that division, & JMM would chase him up 175 if he had to

I guess Top Rank boss Arum suggested to PAC to vacate the title so that Valero (another Top Rank boxer) versus Pitalua will be upgraded as a regular WBC lightweight championship fight...

PAC also left 135 for 2 fights (Hoya and Hatton) and I think it's high time for him to give up that title...

Anyway if PAC is successful against Hatton, he will get 2 new titles in a new division, the Ring and IBO 140 belts...

For Pacquiao, the issue is paying for the privilege to fight outside the weight class so he can still retain the Lightweight belt he doesn't really need.

The question on Sulaiman's mind is if he lost to Hatton could he still get a big money fight. Sulaiman's fool comment was because of money but IMO the comment just further damages his reputation because it's obvious that his "fool" reference was about money.

Pacquiao says he's only going to have 2 or 3 more fights then he's done. I think in Pacquiao's mind it's 1. Hatton, 2. Mosley (previously Margarito) and anyone's guess after that premised that he's not going to loose. If he were to lose then he could be looking at the lightweight class again but does he really need a belt to get the fight? I really don't think so because we are looking at JMM. The problem for Pacquiao at that point would be providing JMM defeats Diaz is that JMM will want to acheive his dream and Pacquiao is last shot at it. Provided Valero beats Pitalua Pacquiao won't even need to fight JMM for another big payday. As far as money fights go as long as Pacquiao is winning he won't need to carry a belt. Even if he loses he still has options.

Maybe... and they're (TopRank) building Valero up as a possible opponent for Pacquiao's last fight at the end of this year as PAC retires from boxing... From one TopRank boxing star to upcoming TopRank boxing star...

What we really need is a saviour who'll come in and buy out the 4 major alphabet councils (WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO) and merge all the titles by having all the champs face each other and leave us with one champ in each division.

I know it's just wishful thinking but it would be nice!

Ya the thought occurred to me too, but I was guessing he'd have to loose for that to happen. Valero is an excellent fighter but he just doesn't have the draw. He needs some bigger named fighters on his resume. With limited venues, it's difficult for he to get fights. (with big names) I was also thinking Pacquiao might try to set a venue in the Philippines but I just can see how it's possible unless he retires first.

It would be nice to see Pacquiao get back and clean up his filled house at Light. With his big success chasing and beating Delahypa in glamour match & should he defeat Hatton....or even if he does not .....I dont think hes going back to down in weight. With Marquez sitting at top perch at 135...who knows after Diaz squabble and possible trilogy....

Valero should fight Soto or Antillon....and get ko'd
