You don't have to know about boxing to appreciate the magnitude of skill Guzman displays.. not just defensively either.
That doesn't make Hopkins not a better fighter, which he clearly is. Ugly style or not he is far better than Guzman will ever be, even if he isn't as impressive, thats the whole appeal to Hopkins. I would also argue that Calderon is at least as good of a defensive fighter.

Guzman is maybe the P4P most talented fighter in boxing right now. I am a huge fan I hope he comes back,.

A year ago, I had it Floyd the best defensive fighter, then Guzman, then Hopkins. Now that Floyd's gone, I think Guzman is def the best out there. Hopkins uses footwork, blocking shots, and his slickness to get away from punches but Guzman is slick and evades punches with raw instinct.

Guzman is definitely more fun to watch!

I'm not sure who said it, but I think Guzman blew his shot at the elite by not making weight for his fight against Campbell. A win there would've made him almost impossible to dodge by the winner of the Diaz/Marquez fight. But we all know how that panned out...

Fortunately for Guzman he has a vacant title shot coming up shortly, so assuming he wins he can be in position once again to get another big name fight.

He's extremely talented. I've been following his career for some time now and it's too bad he hasn't got a big named fight, some of that his fault a lot of it was his promoters he had throughout most of his career.

I remember when Guzman was going to fight Pacquiao in Vancouver, Canada. Ahhh, I was so pumped since Vancouver isn't that far of a drive from Seattle. Too bad Bob Arum quickly decided against it immediately after Guzman beat Soto. His excuse was Guzman was too boring but I think honestly Bob didn't like the risk/reward, plus Pacquiao has never really faced a slick fighter like Guzman before so there is a bit of an unknown factor there as well.

Here was an article on what almost happened:

Roach wants Pacquiao to face Guzman before Marquez

Manny Pacquiao and his trainer Freddie Roach want Dominican Republic’s Joan Guzman as the next opponent for the Philippines’ national pride, according to a report posted on Sunday by Sun-Star Cebu.

However, the deal has not yet been sealed as they are still waiting for the go signal from Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) and Sycuan Ringside Promotions — the co-promoters of Guzman, who is the World Boxing Organization super featherweight champion.

Top Rank’s founder and chairman Bob Arum has been negotiating with GBP’s Richard Schaefer and Sycuan’s Glenn Quiroga to allow the undefeated Guzman to fight Pacquiao on October 6 in Vancouver, Canada.

On a positive note, GBP executives Schaefer and Eric Gomez aren’t keen on holding back Guzman if the money offered by Arum and Top Rank is enough.

Roach has also given the go signal for his prized fighter, Pacquiao, to fight Guzman, whom he earlier described as the only fighter in the super featherweight division who has the arsenal to beat Pacquiao.

It seems Roach and Top Rank want Pacquiao to face Guzman first before the champ goes on a rematch against the WBC super featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez.

Pacquiao had earlier sent a letter to the World Boxing Council (WBC) asking it to name another mandatory challenger to Marquez, a move that drew a lot of flak not only from Pinoy fight fans but from the WBC president Jose Sulaiman himself. - GMANews.TV
