Sounds like a background service refusing to kick itself out of memory space. Download this baby here if you are running Windows 2000 or Windows XP: Download details: User Profile Hive Cleanup Service (please note it is not for Windows Vista)

    It will help.

I have Vista, thanks for the tip.

Youngblood have you used the anti virus software that you recommended to me, I will use it if you have, otherwise I will not be your guinea pig.

Download this and run it: Malwarebytes.org . It is an anti-malware program what will find junk and rootkits that anti-virus programs will not even detect.

Here is an anti-virus program that I highly recommend: Free antivirus - Avira AntiVir . It works really well and according to this antivirus comparison sight, AV-Comparatives Avira Antivir is up there with the best of them.

Do you have to accept their offers, or is that part of the deal why it is free, that they have your details and some tit phones you when you are eating trying to sell you insurance.

I use AVG, and am very happy with it. It runs fairly lean and finds and stops alot of stuff. I don't like Nortons, as I say...because I am impatient and it is a bit of a resource pig.

You do also want on top of a good anti-virus, to have a back up anti-malware program, but one thing at a time. You shouldn't be on the internet period without anti-virus.
