Joel Casamayor thinks he knows why Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo are fighting for a third time Saturday night at Las Vegas' Thomas & Mack Center.
Neither one wanted to face him again.
Casamayor, a former super-featherweight champion and a 1992 Olympic gold medalist for Cuba, is offering either one the chance, although he would prefer the winner, whom he figures will be Castillo. advertisement
"Too strong for Corrales, but it doesn't matter, because I'll fight anybody," Casamayor said Thursday at a Phoenix news conference to announce he will be featured on an ESPN2-televised card July 7 at Celebrity Theatre.
Casamayor, whose opponent for July 7 has yet to be approved by ESPN, is 1-1 against Corrales, winning a TKO in 2003 and losing a split decision eight months later.
He also lost a split decision to Castillo in 2004 as a lightweight (135 pounds). Casamayor (32-3-1) has only one other defeat, a narrow decision to Acelino Freitas in 2002.
"He is the only fighter today who can really argue he is still unbeaten," said promoter Luis De Cubas, who has offices for his DRL Promotions in Scottsdale and hopes to stage a series of cards in the Valley.
The July 7 card also is scheduled to include junior-welterweight Grover Wiley against Julio Garcia of Mexico. Wiley ended Julio Cesar Chavez's career in September at US Airways Center.
Wiley was at the news conference with Casamayor, retired great Roberto Duran and 2006 Hall of Fame inductee Michael Carbajal.
I feel for this guy,I wish someone gave him another chance!! I honestly believe Freitas,JLC,Chico don't want anymore of him,he could cause all of them problems.

Is what I'm sayin is that Casamyor should by no means be undefeated. You explain to me how he beat Castillo the and won more rounds than Chico the second time? And Campell is a warrior, sometimes he comes in good, sometimes not so good, but I don't think he priced himself outta the fight with Casamayor outta fear. Look how Casamayor did against Kid Diamond, narrowly beating him on my card. Then look what Campell did, he destroyed him.
