Do you want Nancy Palossi having a say on our sport?
Beats the hell out of what we have now, cause right now,I could go to the graveyard and dig someone up and get them sanctioned in some states.
Its dangerous, and its unfair to the fighters who really take this sport seriously. It allows for graft and corruption 7 ways from sunday,it rips offs the fans.
The states have had years to clean up their own houses, and alot of them havent bothered to do buh.
Required state contracts between fighter, and manager in alot of states read like indentured servitude as well.
I wont let my fighters fight in some states, because the state required manager contract reads like,I just bought the kid to work in a plantation in 1800. I dont matchmake in a couple of others because the promoters fee is just ridiculous high.
Make it a unified set of rules

I agree for the most part. It needs finetuning and input from knowledgeable people in the sport, but the basic principles of safety of fighters and regulation of promoters are sound.

As Trainer stated, the system as we have it is filled with problems. From what I gathered, his point was if it is between the current system and a system regulated by the federal government, the latter is better.

    Just about.
Let me put it this way, before I'll even let a fighter that I have ties to look at the fight contract,I have to go check that states requirements. And some of them havent changed since boxing got legalized.
Then I have to go look at the contract itself, and half the time there are all kinds of weird riders in there, that a dog wouldnt sign if he knew how to read it.
    Then,the money is allways wrong.
All this stress on a kid, that is just about to be hit in the face and hit somebody back, because you spend at least a week calling the kid saying "Its on" and then calling back saying,"There's a problem"
And then theres the actual you get to the ring rules which vary from state to state.
By the time the kid gets to hit somebody he's probably Manic Depressive from all the ups and downs.
It would just be better for everybody but some of the slime that are still floating out there exploiting ,if the rules just got standardized
I wouldnt even have a problem with an audit on occasion,I know my books squeak theyre so clean.
I try to tell people, there's more then enough money to go around in this sport, but if you treat it like a get rich quick scheme, you'll be having a lengthy discussion with the feds anyway.
Might as well have a national overseeing board.
    Id be happier

It would be a shame if goons like SOB weren't able to screw fighters over... a bill that quite possibly could rid the world of shady promoters, unfit boxers, and crooked dealings in boxing.......damn why would anyone want that to happen?

I don't care if you voted for McCain or for Obama, you have to respect what John McCain is trying to do for boxing....he's one of the few guys who really cares about the sport AND he's in a position where he could help change the sport for the better

Having it universal that you cant have walk in the door contracts? You know a contract that the fighter signs while he's getting taped, and didnt have a chance to read?
Eliminating double dipping on a fighters money?
Making it universal that fighters have to, at the very least, have a HIV/Hep test?
Making sure the gate reciepts are equitable to the fighters purses by an occasional audit?

    Whatever would I do?
I mean other then what I allready do?
Make it universal, and create some National oversight board, because the states wont do it on their own, theyve had more then enough chances and warnings. And there are way too many scumballs out there who will gleefully exploit the loophole in their regulations to make a buck.
Universal oversight, wont affect me one wit,I allready play the game that way,and anyone who got driven out of the sport because they couldnt abide by fair universal laws, buh bye.

I can't disagree with you, TM, but I just have a feeling that what's really going to happen is your going to trade up in the bully market. Now the bully will have force of law. It won't end corruption and some how, some way boxers will still get screwed. What will really happen is "altruistic" types will have fatter pockets.

Hey guys, I'm not sure that everyone here really understands the impact of this bill. I started 'browsing' the "Actual Text" (not the report on findings) of the bill and there is some real eye opening stuff in it and It looks like there will be some huge impacts for everyone involved boxing including the promoters, the sanctioning bodies and ratings and of course the intent of the bill which is to provide some fairness and protection to the fighters when it gets passed.
