Personally, I've never liked Oscar De La Hoya, but he HAS done a great deal for the sport of boxing. I would never boo him. Him getting booed doesn't surprise me in the least though. I went to the Juan Diaz-Michael Katsidis fight down here in Houston last September and ODLH was there. He got booed then too. The fans booed and started a "Margarito" chant when he was shown on the big screen. It's not an issue with boxing fans not appreciating ODLH, it's most definitely a cultural thing. Everyone I saw booing was Latino. I think that there has always been some type of resentment between ODLH and Latinos. Not really Latino-Americans but Latinos. I can't really speak on it, but all I know is that when I went to watch the ODLH-Vargas fight at a Latino friend's house; my friends (who were born here) were routing for ODLH, their dad and uncles were all going for Vargas, and their mom and aunts were going for ODLH. I think that ever since the Trinidad "ran the last three rounds" debacle, most older Latino guys that grew up with guys like JCC, started labeling ODLH as a fake, pretty boy pussy. ODLH did take a lot of challenges but that still doesn't seem to earn him respect with some people for some reason. I've always thought that he was really overrated, but his resume can't be denied.
