Having a win over Celestino "THE TOWERING INFERNO" Caballero is quite an impressive achievement... Cordoba is one reason why the 122 division is one of the hottest division in boxing right now...

Just look at these names; Israel Vazquez, Celestino Caballero, Juan Manuel Lopez, Gerry Peñalosa, Rafael Marquez, Ricardo Cordoba, Poonsawat Kratingdaeng, Jhonny González... to name a few...

Must admit never seen Cordoba fight, but I do like the carnival atmosphere that Dunne brings with him and a packed Irish crowd cheering to the rafters will have me rooting for Dunne and hoping everything goes Hunky Dory

Yeah actually this highlights the point I was making with CutMeMick about Khan fighting Marquez.

He thinks the fight would never happen and it would be a sell out for Marquez to take it but he's simply underestimating the appeal of popular fighters. Dunne got sparked in a round just like Khan to a fighter who has since twice been beaten by a decent domestic level Brit in Munroe yet its Bernard Dunne because of his popular appeal that not only gets the world title shot but also has the bargaining power to drag the champ over here.

Now look at Amir Khan, who has achieved far more than Bernard Dunne being an Olympic Silver Medalist and boasting a win over a legend in Barrera (whatever the circumstances). He's more popular in the UK than Dunne is in Ireland even capable of doing PPV's on Sky Box Office.

The media interest in a fight between Marquez and Khan would be huge. If it was in American it would be a FAR bigger attraction and an easier sell than any of the other challengers left out there, Funeka, Prescott, Peterson, De Marco etc.

In fact unless Marquez gets Manny again or rematches Juan Diaz I cannot see a bigger opponent for him than Amir Khan.

He will have to move up to jump weight classes again and fight at a catchweight against another divisional star as there simply arn't any other big fights for at lightweight, and none that come close to the money making potential and media appeal than Khan.

Don't get me wrong I don't believe that Khan is ready for Marquez but I'm certain if Warren wanted to negotiate terms with Marquez, only a third fight with Pacquaio would stop Marquez and his team from being all over it. They may even come to the UK to fight him as I'd imagine Khan is a bigger box office draw than J M Marquez even if he is the second best fighter on the planet.

I fully agree Master Bilbo... If you can lure a boxing legend (Barrera) to fight you in your own backyard then it says a lot about your drawing power...

I'm sure with moderate money (maybe $333,333 US dollars), Team Khan can convince JMM to fight Amir in the UK... JMM fought one time in Indonesia (Far East) for US $30,000 and lost to local hero Chris John...

Quite looking forward to this one, but I think the difference here between Khan and Dunne is that Khan has really improved his defence to recover from his one-round sparking, and we're still not sure if Dunne has succeeded with that yet.

As for getting the title fight, a part of me thinks it should have gone to Munroe, but as Bilbo said, a good promoter and fan-pulling-power means more than results sometimes.

I'd return it if i didn't spend most of my time on this site repping you . So, what odds on Dunne getting past the halfway mark you reckon?

They've got quite the party atmosphere there, and they're welcoming Dunne like the champion. I imagine Cordoba will have the more muted welcome, and be all the better for it.

The boos ring out for the champ though. I doubt he'll mind, should be all business.

Cordoba took the first, Dunne the second, and in the third a sensational left from Dunne has Cordoba down and in trouble. They go to the corners and Dunne will be buoyed by that!!!!

Cordoba took the fourth, then put Dunne down twice in the fifth....he's got to get his damn hands up and away from Cordoba or this'll be over sharpish.

Dunne is putting on a much betting showing than I expected, tbh I though Cordoba would have taken this in 3 or 4.
