Well that's the cruiserweight division for you

Byrd really should either have stayed at heavyweight where he was tried, tested, and a solid fighter or totally retired.

Older fighters cutting lots of weight to move down to a weight class RARELY works out for the best, just ask Roy Jones Jr., Oscar De la Hoya, or hell Chris Byrd after his stint at light heavyweight

Early in career,I disliked Byrd. But like many,he grew on me,Respected the fact that he fought all comers and called out anyone that would listen. He sort of turned the corner and seemed to fight more aggressively almost to make an impression/statement.Age combined with battle damage accumulated but you could not question his heart..ever.I was weary of his Lt Heavy quest to re event himself and he showed all the signs of a past it fighter George, man it was sad.You can shed the weight, but not the damage and years.I hope he retires fast,The man is as sharp as they come and seemingly has a great family.Time to get out but like many...continues to grasp at memories with faded skills, boosted by pride.

I agree man....Chris Byrd has a ton of heart, but he just can't compete anymore. I think maybe it would be good for him to start up a gym and be a trainer or something. He has a very unique style and it served him well and everyone knows there is a market for trainers who teach BOXING and not just power punching.

You look at who he fought at heavyweight and you just wonder how he ever made it this far...he's a tough tough fighter.

Wladimir (twice), Vitali, Ibeabuchi, Tua, Holyfield, Golota, Oquendo, McCline.....those are some good fighters and he had some big wins too

I actually think he could be a good analyst. Maybe Showtime or ESPN (if they went to a three man team.)

After Byrd lost the title to Klitschko, I recommended to him to move to cruiserweight. He said he was considering it but returned as a heavyweight and lost to Povetkin. Then rumors came out he was going to drop to Lightheavy. I recommended that it was too much weight loss and again mentioned cruiserweight. He said he felt fine and against my suggestions got beat as I had feared he would. Now he's returning at cuiserweight! Is it too late? I don't know but it is the best weight for him.

And I have no problem with him comming back against a "bum". One step at a time, this makes a true comeback. There is time for him to rebuild. I am not expecting too much but it beats fighting 240 lb. guys and what happens, happens.

I agree that 174 was way too deep a drop for him. His legs were gone by the first round in that fight he just looked unsafe in there. He should have went to Cruiserweight 3 years ago. But there's no reason he won't be successful at Cruiserweight. I think he can beat the guy who beat Enzo Mac, with ease. The guy who beat him on the Khan Barerra card.
