He got a cut says it all? I am surprised Joe couldn't stop him, even though Roy couldn't see out of one eye for half the fight. People will look back at their fight years from now and realize that Joe really wasn't that impressive in the fight, he could barely land anything, he was showboating, but getting hit flush as a result of it, that Roy who was a shade of his former self held his own until he got that bad cut, and besides outworking Roy, Joe really didn't outbox him.

I agree, as long as he takes it a bit slow and works his way up to a big one. Beat a few (maybe two) more Sheika types and then take on one more top tier guy. But if he can't pull the trigger in those easier fight even though he wins them, call it a caree and leave with dignity and grace.

And I also believe my sig says it all.

I think he made the mistake of fighting Joe Calzaghe who was way too much for him, at this stage in his career he can't fight pressure fighters, he needs to fight guys who will try to box against him. He has the handspeed and the reflexes still to be successful in this style of fight, but because people are not used to Roy fighting off the ropes, and people have never given a lot of credit to this defensive style which Winky has also not been given much credit for using, I think Roy has to back up his opponents, because when his back is against the ropes I think people see him turtling and get the wrong impression. If you look back to Ali, even he got hit a solidly a lot more than Roy is getting hit now.

The only big fight for him is Hopkins and there's no way he beats Hopkins.

Joe could have knocked jones out but carried him to the end of the fight. Calzaghe purposely didn't ko jones when he easily could have. Calzaghe held back.
Calzaghe could barely land anything clean, and most of the time he only did so by throwing unorthodox punches that because of their design carried no weight behind them.

Calzaghe is a hell of great boxer, and he did dominate & outbox Roy (although not as much as on the scorecards which were ludicrous) but the fact is a prime Roy would never have let Calzaghe get away with all that clowning in da ring, he would have battered him. Yes Calzaghe's volume punching is an impressive skill, but the fact is a younger RJJ & B-Hop would have found a way to beat it (as Hopkins already did IMO). Saying he beat Trinidad means nothing, Tito was shot & only fighting about 10-15lbs lighter than his walkaround wait & that's assuming he's piled on the pounds. Roy doesn't have it any more, he can maybe beat the likes of Lacy, but Dawson, Hopkins or even Jermain Taylor would have a field day with him now. A Hopkins-Jones rematch would be 12 rounds of Hopkins beating up Roy for all the resentment he's built up in him over the years, before probably KOing him in the 12th. I'm a fan of both guys & its not a fight I wanna see.
He's been shot for a while. Some people just can't get over it, Toney's shot too. I've gotten over it. The Calzaghe fight was a farce from day one, said it from day one it was the easiest "big" fight to predict in forever. But some still think he can turn back the clock that one last time. Still.
Dawson would annihalate him, ffs lets get serious people.
The only fight for him strangely enough might be Hopkins cause that would be a feint fest and Roy if anything needs a slow pace which Hopkins is obviously familiar with. But Hopkins probably gets to him with right hands and he can hurt and stop this version of Roy.
