Roach wants Cortez as ref!
Joe Cortez, the New York-born Puerto Rican referee, is the one being eyed by Freddie Roach to referee the May 2 fight between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton, the celebrated trainer from Hollywood told Manila Bulletin on Wednesday. “Cortez is strict and he will not allow Hatton’s excessive holding,” Roach said. But since Hatton’s people and fans thought that Cortez’ penchant to break up fighters will not suit the Briton’s attacking style, he won’t be surprised if Cortez’s name will not be on a list that will be submitted for appointment. “They (Hatton’s people) blamed Cortez for that loss,” said Roach. The identity of the referee and the three judges won’t be known until the final two weeks of the fight but Roach has an option. “If Cortez is not appointed, there’s Jay Nady, who is also strict like Cortez and who won’t allow too much holding.” Roach has been widely quoted that Hatton’s does a lot of holding during in-fighting and he is working hard with Pacquiao to prevent that from taking place in the actual fight. Still, Roach can’t help but express his concern over the choice of the third man on the ring.

I dont think Cortez is fit to referee a high school softball tournament. But yeah Freddie.....focus on the furnishings.....Hattons the one hitting you in the gut.

Well I guess it is convenient to get a ref who absolutely loves to destroy the game plan of a great inside man like Ricky, a la vs Floyd Mayweather Jnr. But how has Cortez earnt the right to ref any big matches recently, he's dreadful...especially after the "I'll decide for 10 minutes whether it's a DQ or not while a boxer slowly bleeds on the floor" decision.
Absolute moron that guy, not even fit to ref under 10's boxing.

I wouldn't bank on that. Pac might well win, in fact I favor him to do so, but I would be astounded if it was inside 3 rounds. Roach needs to shut his goddamn mouth. Few things in boxing piss me off as much as dumbfuck trainers (ie Jack Loew) who run their mouths about other fighters getting knocked out.

Yep... he got that prediction spot on.Seriously ,the fact that pac hit oscar so many times and couldn't KO him or even rock him suggests he really doesn't hit as hard as the pac mans let on.
I'm not going to reply to the rest of your posts, just more rambling from the pac man gospel.
Yup so many boxers (specially those stopped by PAC in actual fights) said that PAC doesn't hit hard but they're all in agreement that PAC is so fast and his punches are like knives that slashes multiple cuts on their respective faces... I think this is the same way PAC will handle Hatton, shred him to pieces...

Early Knockout Predictions Buzzing at Wild Card Gym
Report From Wild Card Gym, Hollywood
It's all systems go, full speed ahead at Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California. Manny Pacquiao shows all signs of a focused and very determined hungry champion. When I entered the gym yesterday afternoon, Manny was already hard at it with Freddie Roach in the ring. The pound for pound king was banging the protected body of Freddie Roach, but even with the protection Roach felt the power.
Even with all of the focus and hard work in the gym, an energenic yet good spirited Pacquiao took a second to make sure that his right hand man Buboy stays on the alert. Buboy, standing in the corner of the ring wasn't prepared for the wicked fast left hook that he would receive. Even a playful Pacquiao left hook would put a red welt on the right side of Buboy's belly. The gym lit up with laughter as Buboy rubbed the signature that was left by Manny on the right side of his belly.
Roach is predicting an early knockout, and honestly? just about everyone else in the gym both in and out of Team Pacquiao are predicting the same thing. The buzz in the gym certainly calls for a Pacquiao early on stoppage over Ricky Hatton.
