Why does everybody hate Don King ?

He has had a checkered history. For me he seems to get more agreeable with age. But I could never really like a promoter.

there is how he treated Tyson (who is hardly an angel yes, but King abused him still)

how he treated Gerald McLellan

his corruption with those at the WBC

his jury-tampering & involvement with senior US Mafia figures (guess who gets some of our money from the PPVs)

his chumminess with George W. Bush

there's probably more I can't think of right now.

I don't hate him anywhere near as much as Bob Arum though

There's many reasons, I won't go on about them all, but the main one is his happiness to financially support and do business with Apartheid South Africa throughout the 1980s even as the world's governments and major businesses boycotted them. His alleged comments to an HBO executive about leaving Latinos and Blacks to fight in the ring whilst they made all the money as well, as I definitely believe he said that. He's just been overshadowed by King's corruption, because he doesn't seek the limelight as much as ol' Don.

Although I don't really like Don King he can be more entertaining than the whole of the HW division at the moment just with the shit he talks! He makes Muhammad Ali seem quiet at times.

Most promoters for all their faults care about their fighters, and want them to do well. Don King wants to do well himself, he doesn't care about his fighters nor does he care about their well being.
