His reputation as a great street fighter is a product of hype. He was never a very good fighter of any kind, average i guess. The guys he fought on the streets really couldnt fight.

This Kimbo guy is about the most overhyped overrated bum of all-time. He doesn't have any skills. The only reason why people thing he is such a big deal is because he's a big guy with a big beard, and that's it.

Kimbo has power, that is the reason he was severely overhyped. He was never a skilled pugilist but he is always one punch away from making the highlight reel. Make no mistake about it he is trash in my opinion and I am glad he got rocked but to answer the question it is because of the power, image, and media machine that was CBS and Elite XC

His name is Kevin Ferguson, which explains his complete lack of fighting ability.and because his name is Kimbo Slice.. it's a pretty cool name, you have to admit.
Go google his fight with Sean Gannon (a pudgy Boston cop who would later be DESTROYED in his only UFC match). He was never any good, he was only better than the losers he fought.
Boxing is like a handjob, and MMA is like a hot sweaty orgy with 5 chicks. I could never say no to a handjob, but which would you rather have?
In those net videos kimbo fought what looked like bums and guys who couldn't throw a punch.
Still...i wouldn't wanna be on the end of one of his punches thats for sure.
Yeah he gassed badly against Gannon...Gannons face was a mess though. And Gannon got badly owned by Hinkle in his only UFC fight. A really bad broken nose that one.
Kevin Fergunson- A.K.A. "Kimbo Slice"- is an excellent athlete as he trains with Bas Rutten, who was an amazing pride fighter and combat instructor. When he started off it is true that he fell by the way-side and was not in the best conditioning during his early back-yard brawling. I think that he has a considerable amount of potential with his heavy hands. The first three fights that he was in in MMA he won after training with Bas. The first was by a guillotin, and the other two were knockouts, and then he was a little bit over confident went in swinging and got caught. Not that I would ever compare Urijah- as Urijah is incredible- and "kimbo", but it happens to the best. His fame was a double-edge sword, since he has alot to live up to and even though he won three that one loss sent him in a spiral that labeled him only a "hype" I guarantee that he would put up a fight against some of those heavyweights in UFC, given that his drive to train has not been hampered. Hopefully he did not sink into a depression much like rampage fell into after his loss to Forrest. One can only speculate...

All Kimbo Got Is Power And Boxing Skillz. U Put Him Against Brock Lesner For Example Hes Gona Get Hammerd.
Make no mistake boys, kimbo slice is nobodies mug in a streetfight, but thats it. In a boxing ring with proper rules and regulations, he'd struggle to go 6 rounds with even a half decent journeyman. He always struck me as a bully who's good giving it out but not getting it back. Now im no lover of streetfighting or MMA (if i wanna see guys rolling on the ground, i'll go to a bar carpark on a saturday night), But anyone who thinks hes a mug should ask themselves 'Would i fancy my chances against him?' and then i think you'll realise he aint that bad
