cutting the gloveYeah, but all great fighters have those moments if they're coming up against top-class opposition, which is what Cooper was. Can you imagine any prospect now fighting a guy of Cooper's class? What do you mean by the cheating? Is that the vial or the mythical 5 minutes/seconds? But I stand by it, I think if anything that fight made Ali what he was in his prime.Ali would have had Tyson. He was too smart & cocky to lose. Tyson was all about his opponents being afraid of him, similar to Sonny Liston in that respect, Ali had too much confidence to be afraid. If he could take the left hooks of Frazier, and the punches of Shavers & Foreman (possibly after his prime) then I think he could easily take those of Tyson's. Prime against Prime, I say Ali takes it by either a late KO or a UD. The only Heavies who I think might beat a prime Ali were Louis, Holmes and Frazier. Those years out of the ring took something away from Ali.
Interesting. Especially when you consider a fighters prime and that Henry Cooper had him glassy eyed, who knows how history would have been different if not for the cheating. Clay/Ali dropped by Cooper but withstood Frazier/Shavers/Foreman vs a fast powerful short puncher like Tyson.
