I'm ready to see Dirrell step up his competition against anybody of real quality (though not championship quality). I Mundine would be good, but I would also like to see him with Bika, Pascal, Allen Green, or even Andre Ward. With Ward and Dirrell ranked two and three by the WBC, I would love to see those two fight for a chance at the winner of Froch/Taylor, assuming Ward gets past Miranda.

The more I watch Dirrell the more I think he is the most underrated prospect out there, he can throw a hundred real punches in a round, he has great moves off the ropes, he has a great left jab when he is orthodox, and he is very good southpaw as well. The only thing I don't like is that he sometimes doesn't show the greatest balance, guys like Roy Jones and Ali could lean back and not get caught off balance, but against Hanshaw it happened to him, and he seems to not have the greatest foundations and gets pushed down a lot. Besides that he has a great radar that allows him to avoid punches in a way that I can't help but be reminded of Mayweather and Whitaker and Roy Jones Jr. His speed is second to none, probably faster than Mundine, Ward, and Chad Dawson.

The knock on Dirrell - that he is fighting underwhelming opposition - isn't much of a knock at all. Against such opposition, he has looked sensational. I thought after his next match, Mundine was set to fight Sturm?
However, I think Bute may be beating Mundine to the punch for a Dirrell fight:
Canoë - Sports - Un combat Bute-Dirrell?
Article is in French. The article mentions that Interbox and Gary Shaw have been in discussions to match Dirrell against Bute in Montreal before Bute takes on Andrade. The other fight being considered for Bute is the Green v. De Leon winner. It sort of doesn't make sense - why would Bute take a risky fight before the Andrade rematch? Then again, who won't Bute fight? Other than the top of the division (JT, Kessler etc.) Bute has fought and beat two top ten smw's in Andrade and Bika.
Bute v. Dirrell - tough to call.
I don't think Bute would fight Dirrell, in the amateurs Dirrell was competitive with the absolute best guys in the world, while Bute was significantly less so. Dirrell is similar in that he doesn't have a ton of power, but he's the more polished boxer and much faster, but like you said he doesn't have the opposition which he really needs to step up, there are plenty of name guys at or around where he is, and he needs to get his name out there, I know he is only 25, but like Berto he is letting things slip away, except to a bigger degree.

About time Mundine stepped up and ended on a high, he has a load of talent and can raise his game when it suits him, think he has issues with attitude though.
All round very good athlete who used to play top level rufby league and had the dubious distinction of being the only Australian athlete that the Aussie publice hates![]()
