Even though Cotto is a bon fied superstar, I feel like he still has another level and with his combatitive relationship with his uncle would never reach that level.

All the greats that I can think of had a great bond with their trainer and trust, to go into the trenches and can get the most out of their fighter especially when adversity pops up.

I could be talking out of my ass here

Even though their was a translator in the corner for his margarito fight, I was curious to here every word to see how his corner was handling the adversity.. Seem like his Uncle was useless and couldnt come up with anything, nor did he even care... Always seem like a very sterile tough love between those 2... Like I said, not really sure what is said most of the time because of the language barrier, but it was apparent by their body language all the time that a change needed to take place.
Evangelista is a tough SOB with everyone that's just is demeanor, but Cotto is exactly the same way, so is his brother, both are too damn stubborn, that's why they shouldn't be working together, but Evangelista is still a very good trainer especially for a man who never fought, and in the Margarito fight i remember him telling Miguel to go to the body more
When he should have been telling Cotto to tie Margarito up more, going to the body would have been set up eventually, but he needed to stop Margarito from throwing punches like Mosley did, and his movement alone wasn't good enough, thus clinching was his only option, and he's terrible at it.

I like the fact that Cotto does not hold. That is the mark of a true warrior. But in boxing, it is sometimes necessary and recently Mosley does it the best and the most strategically and Hatton does it the most annoyingly. Cotto ain't no biatch, but he should definitely hold a bit more, though he has rarely had to do so other than with Corley, Torres, and Margarito.

If Cotto and his uncle disagreed on moving to Florida to train, I see it as a good omen for Cotto. Seems to me that Cotto is taking his training seriously if he decided to move away from the comforts of home and train on the road, where it seems like he has no choice but to focus. The fact that he came to that decision independent of the controlling Evangelista gives me a lot of confidence that he will be victorious on the night he fights Clottey.

Cotto speaks good English and understands it well, which should help him work well with English speaking trainers. And Cotto has the skills to work with any trainer, whether it is a boxer oriented one like McGirt or this Birmingham fella.

Cotto holds basically when he's hurt, like he did against Corley, Judah, etc. and i agree that his defense would be a lot more well rounded if he would clinch effectively

Think if Clottey beats Cotto that people will say that the family troubles gave a big mental toll on Cotto?

if they do it'll be bullshit, Miguel is always completely focused and just like Mosley did against Margarito, he was able to put his personal problems aside
this isn't the first time Cotto has had family probs with an upcoming fight already scheduled, there was one case that there was a whole paternity dispute, come fight night it didn't phaze him one bit

There were reports that Cotto's new trainer will be the veteran cutman/cornerman Miguel Diaz...
