Booze, in all honesty I think boxing seems to have the advantage over MMA when it comes to NOT being trendy. I know there are fighters and fans of MMA who really truly respect the sport, I just get tired of the guys with big attitudes/egos....a little bit of the stereotyped MMA fighter/fan goes a long way for me.
But there are a couple of things that UFC has done FAAAAAR better than boxing in recent years and I hate to say it but Dana White is part of the reason.....I think he's a total prick but he's done a fairly good job with UFC. Their fighters train properly and come to fights in shape (for the most part) and tonight boxing has a heavyweight matchup between 1 guy who is 6'3 255 and another who is 6'6 271....and I am certain their body fat % is somewhere around 14-20% and if you were to compare that to 2 heavyweight contenders in the UFC I am certain those guys would be in better shape and the same comes to marketing....boxing on the whole has gotten lazy. Lazy fighters, lazy marketing, and it has lead to lazy fans or fans who have switched to MMA.
I do have to give credit to MMA/UFC when credit is due and right now it's doing a damn fine job because of and inspite of it's asshole commissioner.
....even if the stereotypes are true. I may watch more UFC or MMA as the years pass but I will NEVER: wear an Affliction t-shirt, get a tribal tattoo, or have those ugly ass cauliflower ears
