Ordinary World Titles??

I think that the WBA should just give belts like in kung fu.

Black belt champ,
Green belt champ,
Yellow belt champ

etc.....

and they can call the unified belt the Rainbow World Champion Of The World...but that would be silly rite....cause that would NEVER happen....lol

to be honest, i really think it discredits the "world champion" status of someone holding a belt.. What i mean by that is when you hear someone was 3 time champion of the world in 3 different weight classes, it sounds unbelievable to the casual fan.. but considering there are 4+ champions in each division, and lets say someone who had 3 of the belts vacated their title, leaving the belt to go to the winner of an eliminator fight, then you may not have a great champion holding that belt.. meaning you wouldn't have a great champion defending that belt, leaving the title vulnerable for another not so great fighter to have a chance to win that belt..

To be a "world champion" it should be a bit harder in my opinion.. I know that boxing is different than other sports, as it is not technically a team sport, but so say that you're a world champion in baseball, basketball, football is a GREAT feat. One team wins every year, and it takes a WHOLE lot to get the ring. The only "easy" way to get a ring is if you're a backup player, or a bench player in each respective sport.

Last night, i saw some of ODLH speaking about his retirement and they announced him as a 10 time title holder in 6 (i think) different weight classes. We all know Oscar was a GREAT fighter, and that is a huge accomplishment for anyone.. But when you see how many belts are there and what not, it discredits his achievements a bit. Not saying he took the easy road out at all, it's just a shame that someone has the opportunity to say, "well any decent fighter can win a belt nowadays!".

it just proves that titles do mean squat......Lennox Lewis held the IBO and Oscar De La Hoya held the WBO title and they where regarded has the best in their divisions at that time. I think all of the above fighters stuck their fingers up at the 3 big sanctioning bodies and told them where to go......I think it was down to how much a fighter pays towards sanctioning fees and who was mandatory.....the fighters could make more money going it alone cause they knew they could set up a real fight without the sanctioning bodies dictating who where and when.

I wonder how much money it would cost to buy out the major sanctioning bodies and put them out of business? Because that is the only way to get rid of them. Its going to take alot of money to clean up the sport of boxing and I don't think we are going to see anyone do this ever. Even though Oscar could probably buy them if he wanted to.

Quit paying attention to them. We know who the lineal champs are, just follow the Ring Magazine's ratings.

Although, it would really help if HBO, Showtime, and ESPN all agreed to stop showing the belts or making reference to them on the air. HBO used to do this to the WBO back in the 1990's. They intentionally ignored it.

The Ring Magazine first and foremost reports the news, and like it or not, the alphabet titles are still a part of the story in boxing.

Well it still hasn't. Ali was a 3x Lineal Heavyweight champion. He is still the only man ever to do this.

Well it still hasn't. Ali was a 3x Lineal Heavyweight champion. He is still the only man ever to do this.

i remember you used be able to pick up a boxing book & it would have a chapter on each heavyweight champion, how the fk could u do that now.

Well Holyfeild was dargo the only one that i think was not great was his last title he won but the ones before that to me were important.

Mean Ali only became a champion that many times because he lost to a guy named Spinks who he never should of lost to but eh. I think Holyfeild titles hold just as much weight as Ali's did but its all on how you look at it back in Ali's day they never had to deal with all the different belts. Even if you look at the ring it has flaws i dont care for either it is the fighter that makes the belt what it is not the wba, wbc, wbo, ibf and yea not even the ring mag it self.
