MAYWEATHER VS. MARQUEZ NEARLY SET FOR JULY 18?

Sources close to the situation have just informed us that it's looking more and more like retired pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. will make his return this summer against WBA & WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez. Mayweather was originally rumored to make his return on July 11, the same date as UFC 100, against an opponent yet to be named. Apparently, after much debate over the weight at which the fight would take place, both Mayweather and Marquez are now close to agreeing to face each other on July 18.

As I recall he already opened his mouth calling out Pacquiao on weight. I would think that Mayweather Jr has Marquez on this one and they'll be meeting at a catch weight. but I also don't think they have agreed on that yet. Keep in mind that this is a leaked story and nothing is offical. When they work out the details of the fight we'll hear weight, money (possibly) and the venue.

The question is will Marquez be holding on to any of his belts because sactioning bodies will be asking for money from Marquez for a non-weightclass and a non-title fight. If Marquez loses this one, and bets are he will lose easily, after vacating belts his value goes down.

That depends. If he is able to succeed against Floyd then chances are he'll go back down at 140 and compete with Pacquiao other big names there. If he losses, then he'll go back to 135 and hold his belts.

If he losses with Floyd (which I think he will) but showed a very competitive performance, I don't he will hurt his overall status that much.
