From a defensive stand point it has to be Pernell Whitaker even though his offensive attack was light, Winky Wright has to be the most skillful fighter around now even though his offensive attack is also light. He is a big Pernell Whitaker. Bernard Hopkins at his peak was near perfection even though I alway's hated him.

I would have to disagree, IMO Charley Burley was finest defensive fighter. Although not as elusive as Whitaker, Burley was better than Sweet Pea, for parrying/blocking punches, and had greater ring generalship, thus was more skilled...

Respect the opinion but disagree. Pernell Whitaker fought offensive maniacs and shut many of them out, after watching the Chavez fight I don't know how anyone can think he is not the greatest defensive boxer off all time, Burley was a better ring general but when it came to blocking punches and elusiveness Pernell was hand's down better. Actually that would be a great thread. Britkid you should start a threat with this question and also add a pole, it would be close but I am anxious to read what people have to write on the subject.

At least we can rely on you for some serious analysis.

Montell Griffin and Virgil Hill are not my idea of all time greats :P
Thought you guys wanted choices that weren't so obvious. Any fukin idiot can say Ali, SRR, SRL, ODH, Tyson etc. But Montel Griffin is very underated. He beat James Toney when he had less than 20 fights under his belt and stole rounds from a PRIME Roy Jones. So yeah, he was very skilled, you are just being snobbish bitches.

Willie Pep is the most skilled fighter of all time. SRL, RJJ, whoever said Virgil Hill made a good call. Also Whittaker, Armstrong, and Ricardo Lopez, James Toney and B-Hop deserve mention

I like brits top 3 Willie was Magic I can watch him till the cows come home, and have. Charley is my darlin, the tales Ive heard about this guy amazing and from legands themselves only seen 1 vidio but know where they are coming from. Heard and read about Benny before I saw the only tape of him losing after 10 years out.Its the only time in my life watching a fighter for the first time that after watching it,Ive ever felt cheated at not seeing him live. I just sighed and said Fucking Hell.

Young Griffo had more draw than most boxers have fights. He never fought anyone of note either. his record was built off of guys with hardly any, if any , fights. But your right that he was meant to be a phenomenon. Other than him great list. Many people forget Maxie Rosenbloom. He couldnt punch, but didnt need to. He was that gifted
