It's your nose, it's not the end of the world if you get it broken. Boxing is going to teach you discipline, give your life structure, teach you to not only defend yourself but only fight when you need too and keep you fit and healthy aswell as being something you enjoy, when you could be doing 'somethings you enjoy' like sitting on your arse all day watching TV...

Sort of out weights getting your noise a bit crooked in my book, if the gym is good you won't be in a situation where your nose can be broken for a long time. Once your good its less likely to happen and by that point you'd be thinking about doing it seriously and I'm sure your step dad would have seen the benefits of the sport by then.
