He was in a detroit gym working with fighters when Ray Robinson came in, he was asking for sparring. At that time Robinson was the world welterweight champion, there was this certain chap who was sweeping the gym floor at the time and they asked him to spar with Robinson. He agreed and during the spar Ray started getting heavy, and the guy who was sweeping the floor sparked Robinson out.

At this I was transfixed, then he went on to tell me that about 6 months later Ray came back into the gym and asked to spar with the same person. The guy who was sat down at the time reading at the back of the gym agreed to get back in the ring with Him. Once again, Ray tried to beat the guy up, and again the gym sweeper sparked him right out, the old trainer told me they thought the sweeper had killed Ray, he didnt move for nearly ten minutes.

I swear this story is true on my fathers grave.

There is a saying in America, that people who sweep gym floors can knock people out, I believe this story is where this saying came from.

Believe me, this old trainer was one of the straightest guys in boxing.

I will give you ten guesses on who the gym sweeper was....

great story
i wouldnt know who to guess though but i bet he was also a great fighter
