From everything I have seen of Khan in the US media and what I read on here, I don't see any reason not to like him. He seems like a good enough guy, I really don't know much more then that about him.

I'm not a Khan fan, but not because of his race and I don't think anyone really thinks that way, even in their subconscious because when it comes to athletes, I'd like to think that race finds a way to not matter. Look at Tiger Woods who has the entire golf world on his side as a black man, because he plays the game right and he conducts himself accordingly. That's golf, an all white sport.

People slag off Khan the same reason people slag off De La Hoya and JCC Jr. When boxing fans hear a whole lot about something that isn't all that relevant, or they see attention going to perhaps where it isn't so much deserved, then they start generating reasons to dislike a guy. When people see so much being poured into Khan and have to watch him on PPV to pretend it's a big deal to see him spark a guy who means nothing to the division, then it is going to irk them. That's the reason for it, not race so come off it. We're not talking about Hurricane Katrina, it's boxing.
Naive Amat. Altho to be fair it probably is harder to imagine when you're not living in britain. Let me explain....

In Britain the media always highlight a crisis and they like to sensationalise news to sell papers. Happens everywhere i'd imagine.

At the minute i believe there is a lot of confusion amongst idiotic brits which imo leads to 'all brown people' being the same. It's the media's fault.

First off there is Help for heroes campaign which is designed to aid soldiers who are injured 'at war.' A decent campaign it seems, but then the media really like to push the heroes slant down your throats. To some people it may seem insensitive seen as though they may have had innocent family killed in Iraq (not going to go into the bullshit reasons for us and you going into Iraq in here - but the fact is we went in looking for WMD, killed almost 1million Iraq natives, and didn't find a single thing). Obviously when something like that happens some people are going to be pissed off. So some 'brown people' protested at the Heroes March, and the media had a field day. Avergage Joe picks up the paper the following day to read about 'how sick muslim extremists' boo'd 'our boys.' Average Joe is angry at this because the media tell him to be. I'm not saying the booing is right, but you can understand why not everyone is down with calling 'our boys' heroes.

Another story was in the Daily Star and it was reporting on the Mumbai Killings where some Brits had been executed. On the front page it had a picture of a Muslim, with the headline 'Gloating Bastard' - 'Sick Muslim Extremist Gloats over Brit deaths'

When i turned over to read the rest of the story i was literally gobsmacked. All the guy had said was something along the lines of 'Mumbai at the minute is a dangerous place, i certainly wouldn't like to be there and i wouldn't advise any Brits to go there in the near future'
Avergae Joe reads the headline, shows it to his mate, he tells his family. Result is the same: it creates an us and them mentality which is not what britain is supposed to be about.

There are plenty more examples. I remember one example of when the stabbings in London we're all over the papers. One day there was a headline about a black guy stabbings somebody and it was actually covered on about 6 or 7 pages. Then somewhere in the middle of the paper was a story about a white man stabbing somebody. Didn't even get it's own page - just a column.

Sorry to bring this up and i certainly don't think all members of the board are the average Joe's who need the media to give them their opinion on something. I just had to say it because i honestly believe it's a massive problem. I've said before that i've been disgusted to hear comments aimed at Khan and at Naz both from internet boards and from generally talking to people out and about. I'm not saying racism is the only factor and on this board i don't imagine it to be a factor at all, but i am saying that the media have an awful lot to answer to. They are creating huge problems which are strengthening the divide between 'us and them'

Fucks sake!!! Who takes any notice of the Daily Star?

Ziggy Shah's article is nothing but predictable, lazy crap. Surely written by a teenager and definite casual boxing follower.

Shock horror there are racists that boo Khan. The good thing is, Khan never seems in the slighest bit bothered by these apparent hordes of racists harassing him. Probably because the Khan FANS far outweigh the racists.

Oh yeah.. and if a guy that got knocked out in 55 seconds, by a fellow prospect, goes on to become "Britain's greatest ever fighter" it will be beyond a miracle of biblical proportions. Fact.
