Would a Carl Froch vs Joe Calzaghe fight be the biggest in British history? What was the biggest fight in British history?

Nah I can't see it, it would be nothing on the scale of, say....Lewis v Bruno or Eubank v Benn. They were pretty huge over here, you know, when you could watch boxing on TV (fuck I miss those days)
Depends if froch can beat one or two more champions convincingly.
Nah i don't think so. Be a very good fight but not quite on the scale of Benn -Eubank, Bruno - Lewis
Hatton - Khan would have a better shot imo maybe 12 months down the line.

wouldn't come close to eubank vs benn
no chance it would be anywhere near as big as benn v eubank, when those to fought over 10 million people watched it live which was what the england football team was getting during the world cup that year so that was massive figures for a local fight............no one gives a toss about calzaghe, even after the pac-man loss people where saying atleast hatton had the courage to go fight top guys in there prime unlike calzaghe, thats what reporters and fans where saying so no way would that fight be as big
Agreed wholeheartedly.
Benn vs Eubank was the fight that the entire nation stopped to watch.
You stop any random person in the street and ask them if they know Carl Froch. I will give you a 100 quid if you find anybody who knows who in the blue hell he is.
Calzaghe was also never as big as Eubank or Benn. I still think those guys did more for British boxing than JC. They garnered so much more interest. I don't know what it was - They were huge characters unlike bland JC.
Makes me nostalgic thinking about those days.
I see, so the money is not there for Joe to come out of retirement. I know that Froch has called out Joe. If I was Carl I'll keep my mouth shut. I've been to England 26 years ago and loved it. I wish I could live there.
This fight could never be bigger than Eubank v Benn..Froch is a good fighter but he is'nt in the same league as Joe to make it a massive fight of such proportions!!
Hatton v Witter would ceratainly be up there tho!
35,000 for Manfredo, 50,000 for Kessler, Sport personality of the year award and a plethora of primetime chat/game/award shows.
Calzaghe made a name for himself in the end.
Froch's top number is 6000 in Nottingham and had NO live TV for his first Grade-1 opponent.
I don't think Calzaghe is the weak link here
3-Time SADDO PREDICTION COMP CHAMPION.
The only fight that would get close is the hypothetical one of Hatton v Calzaghe. Hatton v Witter wouldn't be that big because Witter is not a known name, just like Froch. To be honest, I can't see any so called 'Super Fight' of any magnitude happening domestically for a long time, mainly because boxing as a whole is not anywhere near as popular as it once was, and probably never will be again. And we have Sky to thank for that.
