Britain's David Haye has made a shock withdrawal from his world title fight against Wladimir Klitschko on 20 June in Gelsenkirchen. Haye has postponed the fight, seeking a six- to eight-week delay, with the Bermondsey fighter understood to have injured an hand.

Klitschko, the IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion, said: "I've been waiting for David Haye for six months and I'm still determined to fight on 20 June. We will now consider opponents."

Asked if he accepted that Haye was injured, the 33-year-old said: "I'm not one to throw garbage at a man who's down, although if it was the other way around I'm sure he would do this."

If Wlad would have pulled out because of injury you can be sure that it would
have been the same probably even more annoying...

I'd rather have two fully fit fighters going at it than one being injured and giving excuses for losing if he does.

Me and why not, Haye himself would do it if it were the other way round, he just keeps finding new ways to show himself up, all people will see is that Haye pulled out, not that he has an "injury"

After all the crap involved in his last fight, he gets what his big mouth has been calling for but his body cant keep up with his talk

Cue the old bandaged hand routine as proof ala Tyson and Calzaghe.

Whats going to happen when Klitschkos next opponent KOs him and then Vitali refuses to fight him for fear of Haye pulling out again?

It'll get put back a couple of months. August is a quiet boxing month, they'll probably do it then when the football team have an away game and HBO have lots of free dates. Haye's injury will be verified by an independent doctor. It's just a bit more drama.

Why would he spend so much time trying to get this fight made and then pull out? He knew what he was getting into. Its just not logical.

It would be one thing if he was the champ and it was some fight forced on him or something, some kind of mandatory.

i don't agree that he comes off as a twat at all. Haye is confident he can beat wlad. you can see it in his eyes. whether or not that happens is another matter, but he is not scared, and he is doing all his fight hype justice! why compete if you're not at your best. he would make himself look like a twat if he went on, fought, lost, then moaned like a bitch about an injury. made the right decision at the right time.

If this does get pushed back 2-3 months it will mean Haye has had just 7 rounds of (one-sided) boxing in almost 2 years!

I disagree. As a fan I am always skeptical of so-called injuries, although I realize they do happen often.
Whenever someone is provoking a fight and acting without class, and then pulls out.....you are a twat.

I knew all along that David Haye was a talker and a balker and not a real fighter as a heavyweight....... Haye got cold feet..... He knew his goose was cooked against Wlad Klit..... Haye and company have fictionally come up with a "Hurt Hand" ordeal that I AM SURE they'll find a quack doctor to verify the injury, so Haye can live off that excuse in a comfortable manner.... It's all a ploy to overcome matters.......... GEEZ!!

At any rate, I was / am backing Wlad Klit.... He has improved greatly since his horrid 2004 year....... Manny Steward has him fighting to the best of his ability....... Safety first approach or not, Klit has been winning all his fights since 2004........ That's all I ask for.......

David Haye has a lotta' soul searching to do.........
