around where i live, near the beaches, it's trendy to be a lifeguard for the reasons you mentioned.. but seriously, at the beach they really work their asses off and save plenty of people a day..

i'd say go for it, but consider the title "LIFE" guard.. you're dealing with peoples lives here and regardless of staring at girls you're still taking a HUGE responsibility on. Would you want your brother/sister/cousin to drown because the life guard took the job to stare at women while they were drowning?

go for it, but understand the responsibilities along with it.

True story. Well, I read it on a website, but think it's true. The Hoff. actually saved a person on a beach in real life, years after the show stopped running. Apparanty the joke around hollywood was, "Yea, he saved em. He's freakin awesome! His hair wasn't even wet when he came out of the water either."

They do literally spend most of their time sitting! If it's working in a public pool that is.

In my opinion you have to be even more switched on though, you don't want to let your mind go to sleep because you think nothing will happen.

Lefty you should also consider getting a swim teacher certificate, most pools don't just want a life guard and the ones that do would obviously pick the guy who had both certificates over the the guy with only one.

Maybe in America mate but I know a fair few life guards in the UK and they definetly don't get laid all the time/look like they're off baywatch etc...

You should go for it Lefty, if you're wanting to work in the fitness industry it's a very useful qualifcation to have as an add on to your training qualifications and even if you just want to be a life guard there are loads of jobs.

Every time I look for a leisure job the majority of the stuff I see are mostly for a lifeguard or for often a gym instructor preferably with a life guard certificate just incase.

Sounds a bit boring to me. Fair enough for a while, but a career lifeguard. Oh dear...!

Read my original post. I'm joining the Police or going to Uni next yr so it wont be forever.

And guys I think your getting a little confused. It will be for an indoor swimming pool I wont be at any beaches (There's aren't even any beaches in Liverpool anyways LOL).

Would still be just as good though and less work involved

Unfortunately with climate change, the waters off Britain will become warmer and infested with great white sharks. Not doubt if you are lifeguarding at the beach, you will have to fend off a great white on order to save a damsel in distress.

Sounds like a good idea bud. It's never wrong to have additional qualifications in other professions, it'll give you something to fall back on if you ever need it.
