I was rooting for Cotto but I thought Clottey won the fight. Clottey did screw himself by not doing much in the last couple rounds, but he had enough rounds in the bank as far as I'm concerned. I remember seeing Lederman's scorecard and thinking "wtf?" because he gave Cotto a couple of the earlier rounds that I though Clottey clearly won. Besides for the 1st, 11th, 12th, and the round (I forget which) where he had Clottey pinned in the corner, I thought Clottey won basically every other round. Bottom line, a rematch is definitely in order.

neither jones nor calzaghe did anything in the first round of that fight and the KD was the high point. so it was a 10-8 round...cotto lost every sec of the round until the balance shot happened..9-9 round, so according to what you've been saying if you knew how to score properly then cotto didn't win it was a draw...since you had cotto winning by one point...

Especially considering that the knock down was from a Cotto jab. So if you used the Max Kellerman approach to scoring a round ("Who would you rather be at the end of the round?"), then i can see how anyone could have Clottey winning. At the end of the fight, i said that the fight could go either way, but i see Cotto as the winner, and felt that it was deserved.. no robbery in my eyes.

Well like the rules state..in a ten point must system it's rare that a knocked down fighter wins the round and in that rare case its then scored 9-9...but i guess its moot because he lost by five on one card and by 3 on the other one. which it to say he was there to lose anyway..much like sturm-delahoya

Bullshit thread.

The fight was close and could of went either way.

Clottey had the fight going into the 10th round and did nothing to win those last three rounds, I'm not saying Cotto was great in those rounds but he did more.

The way i see it, Clottey had a man who looked beaten and was clearly discouraged by the cut and he did nothing to take advantage in the championship rounds. Cotto proved his heart by gutting out those last three rounds.

I hope there is a rematch.

If there is a rematch i expect Cotto to win a more clear decision.

This is one of the best point in the thread. That could have easily been a 9-9 round. Also, when Cotto hit Clottey in the back of the head (accidentally), it affected Clottey and it wasn't the first time. I'm sorry, but when Clottey got taken down early in the fight, Cotto pushed down on the back of his head. He was also hitting Clottey with borderline low blows and a few legit low blows all night and he was never warned.

It wasn't a robbery. It was close fight. I give Cotto all the credit for not quiting after round 4 and rolling the dice with an early decision, Jesse James Leija style.

Still, Lederman and I'm sure some of the judges gave some rounds to Cotto that Cotto did not win. He got too much credit for punches the bounced off Clottey's arms while Clottey was hitting him clean. It wasn't a robbery, but there was some poor, inexperienced judging. Again, the trend judging fights only by punches thrown continues.
