    Darchinyan eyes unified future
    By Peter Kogoy
    June 9, 2006

VIC Darchinyan flew into Sydney from the US yesterday determined to unify the world flyweight ranks one day - and avenge a mate's defeat.

Darchinyan, who is unbeaten in 25 bouts, 21 of them inside the distance, successfully defended the International Boxing Federation version a fifth time and now has his sights on Mexican marauder Jorge Arce, who ended Hussein Hussein's flyweight world title aspirations in Las Vegas last October.

"Arce says he's the best flyweight," Darchinyan said.

    "I reckon I'm the best.

"I want the opportunity to show Arce who is best. I want to challenge him (Arce) because he beat a good friend of mine in Hussein Hussein.

"Arce has moved up a division since that fight. I feel I am ready to show the world I can fight just as well in a heavier weight division."

Hussein, also from Jeff Fenech's stable, and Arce have met twice in the past 15 months, with the Mexican beating the former Olympian both times.

Arce's record at the 50.8kg limit stands at 44 wins, 34 by knockout, in a 48-fight career.

But Darchinyan has a little housekeeping to do before he even contemplates tackling Arce at the heavier 52.1kg limit.

Darchinyan's win against the previously unbeaten Mexican Luis Maldonado in Las Vegas last Sunday took the Armenia-born fighter's record to 26-0, with 21 wins inside the distance.

"I want to unify the flyweight weight division first, that is my main goal," Darchinyan said.

"My next fight will be a shot at the World Boxing Organisation belt in August or September back in Las Vegas."

Standing in Darchinyan's path is the 30-year-old Argentine Omar Narvaez, a fellow southpaw with equally impressive credentials.

Narvaez's record is 21-0, with 15 wins inside the distance along with two draws.

Vic vs. Arce is a good fight. but Arce doesn't take advantage of Vic's weaknesses in any way. So this would be a slug fest

Exactly, whats with all this bullshit about arce taking advantage of vics weaknesses, from what ive seen of arce he dont have the skill to do that. Hed come in and try and over power vic and outlast him....not a good plan.

Fair enough, still a bit rich to call it unifying when your not even facing a champ!!!

But I agree, would be an awesome fight, my money would be on Vic and his left hook

the only thing Arce will pull off is his robe before he gets KTFO by Vic....he will succumb and wind up fighting Vic's fight....not good for Arce...

Arce's high output will nullify Vic's power and Arce will just keep throwing and throwing all night and Vic's defence is weak,he will feel it.

Well,Arce is moving up but when Calderon does come,I feel he will outbox most of these guys,I mean his skills are P4P worthy.

Arce is tough...but once he feels vics power i think his high output might just go down slightly....just like the rest of his body when he hits the canvas.
