An 82-year-old woman was stabbed repeatedly on her way home from a shopping trip in north-west London. Ann Driscoll was found by a neighbour in Fortune Gate Road, Harlesden, at about 1500 BST on Monday.
She suffered nine stab wounds to her neck and stomach and police said she was covered in blood. She is said to be in a critical but stable condition.
