That album (Layla and other assorted Love Songs) really kicks ass. Duane Allman plays all the slide guitar on that album. I always found it interesting that Clapton recorded that while stoned on heroin. And when he kicked the habit his style became much more mellow (461 Ocean Boulevard)

I thought I saw an interview with Clapton years ago where he talked about having a written arrangement for the song on a table, with various parts labeled (verse, chorus, etc.) The label "bridge" happened to be at the top of a page, and when Harrison came in, he thought it read Badge. I could be way off, though - I've lost many a brain cell along the way

The final studio work for his most famous song was completed Dec 8 1967, one day before his death in a plane crash. Thus he never saw a dime from this mega hit single.

That is the correct story. Your brain cells are working just fine.
