Re: Freddie Roach is a CNUT
This was always going to be a problem with Khan even before we knew he had a piss poor chin.
Because Warren has had him headlining, Khan has been expected to put on a show right from the word go. He's not been able to learn properly because the crowd demand a performance so Khan basically has just gone for it in most fights. He's not really had to do anything different. The only time he has was probably in his most impressive Boxing performance against Garry StClair.
Everytime he's been in trouble, because of the crowd and expectation he's not shown that he can adapt to different scenarios. When Limond almost stopped him Khan got out of jail by practically going for it. It worked but it's not always going to work.
Now he's reached the top level at 140 probably quicker than he expected (if he wins on sat) but the live fighters are all going to be tough tests because they are going to present him with uniquely different challenges and dare i say it, they are going to punch back.
Now i can see Warren's side of protecting his fighter/business but this was always likely to end up in disaster, and unless he can iron out his faults against lesser quality fighters in venues where there isn't expectation, he's going to come unstuck. Probably against a fighter who isn't as talented as he is aswell.
It's an example of being given too much too soon. I'm not saying he hasn't deserved some of it because going to the Olympics and bagging a silver is something special especially at the age of 17. But right from the word go he was thrown into the same sort of limelight that the likes of Froch, Haye and to an extent probably Calzaghe and Hatton enjoy. No fighter can learn and build up a wealth of experience under those circumstances.
I still think Khan is about 5 or 6 fights away from being able to hang at the top. He might beat Kotelnik but to progress further i think he needs to be brought out of the limelight a little but that's never going to happen.
