I recently got a copy to show my coworkers what was going on in boxing.
Mayweather/Marquez was on the cover. So I got to tell them remember that PPV I was going to get and invite ya'll over to watch? It's postponed and found a lot of the info dated.

I think a way they could become more relevant is to include more prospects, focus on the future to keep others interested. If someone
was new to boxing they would think there are only about 20 boxers
    in the whole sport.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

Thumbs down Re: The Ring Magazine - who atill buys it ??

I have a collection of the old ones that I sell from time to time, but anything from the last few years makes a goods carpet for my cat. As for their rankings, everyone thinks they are good because they are being hyped by HBO and other networks and by writers from the BWAA. It's a self-engrandizing loop of sheer BS. Max's eyes pop out when he talks about the Ring rankings and Farhood (who is an official of the BWAA) practically swoons when he talks about them.

Why do they have Valuev rated # 5 in the Heavyweight Division. John Ruiz is #8. Alexander Dimitrenko is # 10. Huh?

Julio Cesar Miranda at #9 in the flyweights? Huh?

Silence Mabuza rated high as a Batamweight. WOW!!

Joel Casamayor NUMBER TWO. You gotta be kidding me.

They have one guy doing Thailand amd one guy doing the Philipinees.

No, I don't buy thier rankings for one minute. They do not reflect the kind of research I expect, nor do they reflect much knowledge of Asian and/or fighters from the countries in Africa.

Yeah but no other organization keeps track of the lineal/legitimate champions. So if nothing else, boxing needs them for that.

I used to get it every month but now that has gone up to almost 9.00 dollars I might get it twice a year. Anything I need I can read it on the internet now anyways. The state of the game is 1 of my favorite issues and when the Ring Almanac comes out I'll read that.

I buy it occassionally, it does get quite dated, however, that is offset by the fact that the writing in the magazine is generally of a higher standard than that online (Dougie Fischer-don't get me started). I don't believe in any way that they've sold out to Golden Boy though. Their ratings divisionally seem pretty good, although I do think the P4P list at times gets a bit illogical & based on popularity (Nonito Donaire in 7th)

No doubt.Prior to that twat Katrina....I had monthly issues from 89' and on.After it I had sixteen years worth of water logged printed pulp sitting at the storage unit.....just could not throw them away

But Hey.I saved the tapes.Fortunately they still sell key back issues.Nothing will ever beat Boxing Illustrated though. loved that read.Prior to the "Internets" ha,they were a MUST to know what was going on.

When I worked at a grocery store I used to grab it for my lunch break, spill all kinds of condiments and drinks on it and then put it back on the shelf. Not sure if that counts.

It's part of our monthy groceries, it is expensive as hell though, like ten bucks. I thought any mag over eight bucks including tax had to have tits in it but ah well my baby has nice one's anyhow, probably better it doesn't anyway or the first lady probably wouldn't bring it home every month.

I Had All The Ring Mag From 1965 Until 2ooo..i Came To Live In Australia And Instead Of Putting Them In Storage.i Left With A Friend..needless To Say They Were All Lost..for Nostalgic Reasons Alone I Was Devastated..every Magazine Held A Memory,,now I Just Get All The Boxing News Off Diff Boxing Sites As Well As Having Emails Sent To Me..i Tried Buying The Ring Here In Australia..but It Was,nt The Same ..also It Costs $25.00 An Issue..i Think The Magazine Itself Will Slowly Die Off As You Can Now Go To The Ring Site And Get Everything You Need..

Stopped buying it years ago, especially after the new issues started hashing out dated news.

I used to buy it but stopped because they would carry previews to fights that had already occurred. I don't like paying a fiver for outdated news, so i just get it all off the internet. Sometimes buy Boxing Monthly and Weekly, but not often
