If the champ retires the no.1 and no.2 ranked guys meet to establish THE MAN.. as it currently stands (using The Ring and the Saddo ratings) Cotto and Mosley would have to fight again to establish THE MAN.

He could've earnt more money fighting Oscar again, which he chose not to do. If he had fought Oscar in September/October of last year as was mooted then he might not have planned another fight again till July anyway. I don't think he's #1 in the division, Mosley is now, but it's not like he ducked anyone whilst away to fight weaker contenders. I think he just wanted the 'long vacation' that he always spoke of.

Floyd could also have earned money (and respect) by unifying titles....but he never even tried that which means in each weight class he has fought in he hasn't beaten all of the best guys out there.
