I really respect the fact that Miguel Cotto is choosing his family over any other additional fame and fortune. I guess in his mind, his heart is wherever he is happy, and that happiness is spending valuable time with family.

At the risk of criticisms on bringing Pac's name to this Cotto thread, the write-up really exposes how much Miguel and Emmanuel share the same view as to the relevance and importance of family to them. They are good people really, if you get down to things essential.

All that hard work at training camp all these years each and every fight, there should come a time when one can just pack it up and do what instinctively the body dictates is best.

The earned monies and the fame already in the cushion, must be a nice padding to allow for this indiscretion! LOL...

I find it strange that he is giving 2 years notice of his retirement (I mean even if this is true).
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

Maybe he knows he can't win the Pac fight and is being gracious enough to give us boxing fans ammunition for which to argue his loss with after the fact while at the same time providing himself with a ready-made excuse?

Edit: Just to spare myself the trouble, that was sarcasm.

When did Cotto ever make excuses? If he loses, I don't expect him to make any either.

You obviously don't know anything about Cotto for you to say that he knows that he can't win, I guarantee you, that thought isn't even crossing his mind.

And as I have already stated, this is nothing new, I have read plenty of times over the last few years that he was not going to be fighting much longer. He does not want to fight past 32 at the latest.

I even put in an edit for just this scenario.

Hmm I wonder what is really bugging his mind....He was lucky vs Josh Clottey ...Running into Pac-man just for the Cash..simply looks mind bothering to me..
Pac-man has destroyed dynasties. I simply hope he can be able to with stand sequels maybe that is his plan of retiring after a couple of sequels with Pac-man

I would've said he was very unlucky against Clottey seeing as the cut affected him so badly.

Exactly Diane. Plus, Cotto did not even bring this up during the interview and people are acting as if he is constantly/currently thinking about this. He was asked about it and said what he has always said, which is that he will not have a long career. To me, this means that he is going after all the megafights and make as much money as possible within a two year period before he retires. If I were Manny, I would stop the world tour and get to the gym. Manny's overconfidence is going to haunt him.

David Haye has also stated he will not be boxing past 30.

Well I assume he'll still be fighting when he reaches 30 which means it could run into 2011 his career.

He has stated numerous times he wants to unify the HW division and get out of there to do other things.

He has fought everyone put there in front of him, good luck to him if he has earned enough to retire. Sounds like a smart man if you ask me, I don't like seeing fighters past their best getting beat by guys they would have painted the walls with in their prime.
