There is no shame in losing 2.He had a great career was just wondering if he was pushed abit early in his career we might of seen him in some more big fights when he wasnt past him prime.

agree with you 100% littlebif. He was held back far too long in typical warren style. His prime was wasted somewhat, however i do feel he acheived far more than he seemed destined for. Until about 2003 he looked a european level fighter. Perhaps his wins over collazo, urango, actually represent good achievements rather than underperformances as they are usually seen. It could be said that this was hatton performing at his maximum, but following his win over Kostya his best was deemed to be far better than it actually was. hence his performances in these fights were deemed to be poor performances.
I don't know enough about Hatton pre-Tszyu to say when I think his prime began, but I feel his decline started after the Collazo fight. I really don't think he was ever the same afterwards.
It depends how good you think Tyszu was really.
hatton either hit an alarming peak that not and then quickly regressed or he beat the right opponent on the right at the right time in their careers and he is simply over rated.
I'm somewhere between the two myself tbh
Hattons fault if you can call it that is he went out of his way to face the best.
After beating Koysta he could have fought a few times a year against half decent opponent and stayed unbeaten up till now.
Instead he wanted to fight the best and did and came up short.
No shame there.
Balls
Yea, this is kinda my position. Its extremely difficult to judge, but look at at this way : if we take the tzysu fight out of the equation, the three fights that followed actually look like impressive achievements based on what hatton had achieved before. so it might be reasonable to assume that hattons win over KT was due to KT being past his best AND hattons best performance. If for example he went straight from ben tackie to collazo, the win over collazo would have been hailed as a great performance
Hatton peaked in 2005, he was in the right place at the right time against a 10 year undisputed World Champ. Tszyu had been inactive, had injuries and was aging, Hatton had something like 40 pro bouts under his belt and never looked like losing any of them. At home in front of a parochial hometown crowd the odds were really stacked in his favour. He still had to fight hard to win it and he did, dubious as the refereeing was Hatton won and that is that.
It was a tough fight for the 'fatman' as i believe he was never as good afterwards.
completely spot on
I like to think the tszyu he fought in manchester was indeed the hard hitting russian technician who was almost unmovable at the weight. Hatton that night gave britain one of its finest sporting succeses not in the fact he became a world champ but in the manner he had done it in.
The immidiate fight after that he came up against a very average carlos maussa who he blew away but then when america came calling and particularly his decision to move up the weights he found his physical superiority over opponents was no longer their and had to rely on his technical prowess to get through second tier fighters.
The hatton that fought pacquiao was a complete shell of the guy that beat tszyu back in 2005. Thats not an excuse but a common fact
one dangerous horrible bloke
Ricky Hatton should have never fought the ring post in that catchweight match. Doesn't matter what they signed weight they fought at, it was still gonna hurt and Hatton aint been the same since.
That sounds like an excuse. And another lame one.
Here are the reasons that Hatton lost to Floyd and Manny according to the Hatton groupies.
For Floyd:
-Floyd used elbows
-Joe Cortez referee the fight.
-Hatton fought at 147
-Hatton was past his prime
-Hatton lost his cool when deducted for pts.
-Hatton lost his punch resistance after the tszyu fight
For Manny:
-Hatton was weight drain at 140 because of his lifestyle outside the ring
-Hatton lost his punch resistance after the tszyu fight
-Hatton was past his prime
-It was Floyd Senior's fault
-Hatton was emotional and couldn't concentrate because of Floyd Senior
Since most of the Hatton groupies are British I'll use an simple example so you guys understand. Ricky Hatton is Frank Bruno while Floyd and Manny are Lennox Lewis. You get it now? Do you guys understand that Hatton's talent level is nowhere near that of Floyd's and Manny's?
