Christ he's let himself go, no way he gets down to 140 again, that is face of a man retired.

    e.g. Naz, Tyson et al

To be honest Greg he looks like he always does couple of months out of training.

Wow I stand corrected. That makes it more amazing that he was able to get down to 140 at all.

Sounds like a someone needs to get their panties out of a bunch, and learn to lighten up around here.

This pic sums up why Ricky could never be a truly great fighter. Aside from his one dimensional fighting style...his ballooning up and down in weight in between fights, damaged him. It's one thing if this trend started to appear later in his career...but he seems like he was never one to take care of his body in between fights.

To be a truly great fighter you surely have to be a truly great athlete too. It'd be interesting to see how many fighters who are/were great that are/were an exception to the rule.....

I'd say Duran would have to be at the top of that list. Anyone think of any others?

Carlos Monzon certainly lived large outside of the ring whilst still fighting. The difference being that Monzon & Duran were supremely talented boxers & could get away with it due to their skills. Ricky just doesn't have anywhere near the same talent

You can compensate quite a bit for lack of "natural" athletic ability with great discipline, skill, smarts, and heart. I think people sometimes buy in to much into natural ability. Sure, it doesn't hurt...but so many great fighters have worked extremely hard to MAKE themselves into great athletes/fighters. And we have certainly seen examples of boxers with great physical ability but lack of discipline/heart who have wasted their talents.

The other was Monzon, who only began training some 3-4weeks before a major fight. In between fights he chained smoked, drank like a fish, screwed anything that moved and avoided being killed by his wife! How he managed to always make 160lb is beyond me, he never porked out like Hatton though! Hatton won't comeback from this, i just watched the footage of this and he looks more like Ricky Gervais than Ricky Hatton!

Looking like that I just can't see him making the 200lb limit without some work

Is that pic for real? If it is then that is not a man who has any intention of fighting again!
