I totally disagree that he "doesn't give a shit about his legacy", but I think we've had this debate before and I don't want to get too much into it again, I agree money comes first but I find it hard to believe that a guy like Hopkins doesn't care about his legacy at all.

I'm sure most guys would like to erase their losses but I suspect Hopkins knows Roy is a bit of a lose-lose fight for him. Outside of the money of course. If its just a lot more money he'll probably take it. I can't see the demand being that great though.

Of course he cares about his legacy, but not at the expense of earning money (like all/most fighters).

He just told Roy in that radio interview he will fight him before christmas if he accepts 40%.

So what happened to these great legacy fights against Dawson and Adamek? That legacy shit was soon booted out the door.

He did say he would fight Roy before xmas, when both Dawson & Adamek already have scheduled fights. I think from the interview it's clear he's valuing his legacy more, however money is also an issue.

Whilst a fight with Jones might seem to make more, a fight with Adamek in New Jersey would be a sell-out & more importantly (as with a Dawson fight) it is a fight HBO is interested in. HBO's money means that a fight with Adamek & Dawson is more profitable.

A fight with Jones may also lead to Jones demanding it be PPV & thus hurting the viewing figures. I just didn't see anything in the Lacy fight that suddenly told me it was the ol' RJJ to make it a fight I'd like to see, although IMO both B-Hop & Roy should take a lead from Calzaghe & get the hell out whilst they're still good

I'm pretty sure Hopkins talks about earning more MONEY with Dawson or Adamek not about improving his legacy.

Adamek-Golota was made because HBO wouldn't (haven't yet) raise the money to meet Hopkins demands. And Hopkins/Golden Boy have said the fight is off should Adamek face Golota.

Bernard Hopkins: Money has been the issue for the past ten years with us.

Roy Jones: How much will you give me?

BH: I will make it a 60:40 split

RJ: How about 60 to the winner and 40 to the loser?

BH: Now you want to make a contest out of it. I don’t need Roy Jones. It could wind up in the judges hands and you never know what will happen.

RJ: You pick the judges.

BH: If RJ will take 40, we can get it done before the year is out. But if not…

RJ: He already has an L on his record from me and he is trying to make me take 40 so he can prove that I am the lesser man. But if you will make it 60 to the winner and 40 to the loser I will take my chances with that.

BH: Do you think I would make more money fighting Roy Jones than I would a young stud like Adamek or Dawson (both of whom he could have already fought by the way but he low-balled each to the point he knew the fight would not be made, which is an old way of avoidance long practiced in boxing)?

RJ: Bernard doesn’t want to fight me. Why would he want to fight me? He’s having fun now at this point in his career. He doesn’t want to take that gamble.

BH: Is Roy willing to go on record to take 40% win, lose or draw?

Show Producer: How about the winner-take-all?

RJ: That’s even better for me.

Show Producer: Bernard are you there?

RJ: No. When you said winner-take-all you ran him off the phone. He’s been doing that to me for 5 years now. He disappeared. That’s what happens to me every time.’’
