    R.I.P. Darren.

The boxing world has just lost an awesome prospect, but the world in general has lost a terrific man who lived life with passion and desire.
    It almost seems surreal...

Anybody know why he took his own life?

I can't find any info in the articles reporting his death. Such a sad story, how can somebody who seemingly has the world at his feet decide to give it all up?

breaks your heart to know this was all we will ever of seen of such a bright and talented young fighter just coming off an olympic triumph and with tv companys banging his door down to get a look at him. With gatti and forrest it was almost as if we could be glad for the memorys they gave us. But with darren it just feels like we`ve all been cheated out of a great story :-(

    Just found this video.

Also apparently Darren had a bad eye injury and packed the boxing in for a 2/3 years after he was at the Ingle gym, he then did a a degree and decided to give the boxing another go again in 2004, the rest is history. He was also said to fall into a depression after the eye injury and thought he couldnt box again, i dont like to speculate but do you think the injury had come back??

There might be a clue in his past. Three years ago Sutherland thought his boxing career was over after suffering a freak eye injury.

He was fighting for Ireland against a Russian B team at the National Stadium in Dublin when his opponent accidentally caught him in the eyeball and fractured the socket in two places.

"I was taken straight to hospital," he recalled last year, "where they saw that the muscle that moves the eye upwards was damaged so I couldn't move the eye. The hospital put like a plate in it and it's still there – it's not made of metal, but another substance to keep the eye strong."

He was so conscious of looking cross-eyed, though, that he refused to leave the house. Contemplating a future without boxing, he fell into a depression, before doctors decided after six months that he was fit to fight again. It turned his life around

This has got to be the worst year for deaths in the boxing business, even worse is the way they are going with the Forrest murder and Gatti murder/suicide. Bad times people!

Default Irish Boxing Star Darren Sutherland Found Dead

© Jane Warburton / Saddo Boxing

Promoter Frank Maloney unexpectedly found star super middleweight prospect Darren Sutherland dead yesterday in Sutherland's home in Bromley, England.

Maloney, who also managed Sutherland, went to pick the boxer up for a news conference but found that Sutherland looked to have committed suicide by hanging. The 55 year old was subsequently taken to hospital for a suspected heart attack.

Sutherland had won a Bronze Medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and had won all four of his professional contests to date in dominating fashion.

The 27 year old originally from Dublin was well-liked outside the boxing ring, tremendously talented in it and expected to eventually contend for a world title.

The SaddoBoxing community extends its deepest sympathies to Darren Sutherland's family.... Full Boxing Article here...

RIP Darren. Too many of these stories this year. Such a promising future. I just hope he's at peace now.

Some reports are coming through now stating that Darren was due to start treatment for depression on the day he was found dead. Apparently, he had "poured his heart out" to his trainer Brian Lawrence around two weeks ago and Lawrence in return had set up an appointment for him with a sports psychologist.

Tragic Irish boxer Darren Sutherland ‘had felt abandoned’

    Terrible, terrible, terrible...
