I think one of the reasons Floyd chose him is because he thinks he can stop him. It will get one up on Pac, which will bode well for him in their fight.

I agree, I think he plans to 1 up Pac by sparking JMM or comprehensively outbox him to leave little doubt or controversy. I am anticipating a 12 round chess match that I will enjoy, but a stoppage would be fantastic and a surprise.
I have been salivating for 5 years waiting to see another destruction like that of Gatti, because Floyd is that good when he opens up. I know JMM is far from Gatti but Floyd is really dynamic and capable.
I like to think Floyd got those huge paydays(Baldo, DLH, Hatton) and protected his 0 enough, now I think he wants to storm through JMM and open up more when he faces Pac, Mosley or Cotto
I think he NEEDS to stop him to make a statement.
If he beats Marquez anything like he beat Gatti then it's 100% certain Marquez was way too small for the weight. He's far too good to get beaten like that by anyone.
I like this fight because they are two great fighters, but Floyd has a serious size advantage. If they were level weights Floyd would still be the favourite yet Marquez is basically giving him 10 pounds.
Still.. you never know![]()

I'm on the flip side for this one.
Mayweather is about looking good and desperately wants to look good against Marquez so he will be in a better position in viewer's eyes for match ups against who ever and that P4P status as well as on the bargaining table. It's all about the Money for Mayweather. To do that he has to out class Marquez with speed and accuracy and knock him out. That desire and sense of urgency will cause Mayweather to take risks. Against Marquez this is a dangerous attitude to have.
Now, I don't think Mayweather will underestimate Marquez when he starts getting hit so it's a pretty fair bet he won't make change ups to his style like Sugar Ray Leonard did with Roberto Duran and stand flat footed. He'll abandoned any notion of knocking out Marquez and revert to his traditional style to beat him on points without getting hit.
What I predict is Marquez is going to out work Mayweather and even though Mayweather has a high connect percentage, he won't out connect Marquez. Marquez wins a UD or SD. We might see some desperation in the last two or three rounds in Mayweather's corner and that will be the only time we might see the fight as less of a chess match.
I think Mayweather punishes Marquez more and more as the fight goes on and his corner pull him out around 9/10 round.
Marquez is gonna struggle with Floyds accuracy he wont get to many chances to counter Floyd cause he isnt gonna miss you that often.
I dunno, I just don't see PBF stopping Marquez. Floyd is a measured, methodical fighter who won't go storming in; it took him 10 rounds to finish Hatton. Now, Marquez won't hang his chin out half as much as Hatton and both may be cautious for the first few rounds.
As much as it pains in to say it, I think the size disparity will cause PBF to win a comfortable UD but I hope Marquez can at least hurt him once.
Mayweather may very well do a number on JMM, but JMM will never be out of the fight and may perhaps come from behind to win this. I think as smart and as tough as JMM is and with him coming UP in weight and Floyd going DOWN in weight, I wouldn't be surprised if JMM sparked Floyd out!
JMM may go down early and often, but he'll be around at the finish!
We could see a couple different outcomes of this fight, some mirroring the following (in bold are the ones I think are most likely):
Chavez-Taylor
Chavez-Mayweather
Chavez-Whittaker
Mayweather-Castillo I or II
Mayweather-Hatton
Mayweather-De la Hoya
Mayweather-Corrales
Marquez doesn't hit nearly as hard as JCC and floyd won't get hit anywhere near as many times as meldrick...
although i do think that because it took a few rounds for floyd to get used to the smaller hatton's quickness, who btw way is no where near as sharp as marquez...given that two year layoff plus the caliber of fighter marquez is, I think he will either score a flash knockdown, or hit floyd a lot in the early rounds. It will be closer than most people think. Only way i see floyd stopping JMM is if he keep him on the end of a stiff jab and straights in the early going. This fight could resemble how tom brady looked the first three and a half quarters of the past monday night game.
Brady was rusty with a year layoff but in crunch time and a little luck he found his grove and pulled it out...

True, but I think Marquez is a better boxer and throws better combinations than JCC. I think Marquez has enough in him to hurt Floyd, he mixes up going to the body and the head better than anyone Floyd has fought since Castillo and I think this fight may mirror that one.
JMM is smart, he's tough, and he has experience as the underdog
I don't think anyone will every stop Maywether. Outside the ring. It is in his genetic make up to run his mouth just look at his daddy. Even after Maquez beats him down he'll have something smart azz to say.![]()
