It wasn't that Homicide wasn't very good, but it got silly after the first 2 series especially how Bayliss became some bisexual weirdo. Pembleton was always good, but the characters were just not as real as The Wire to me. Maybe because I read the book it was based on, I was always harsh, but for me it can't hold a candle to The Wire, which whilst letting its characters evolve (see Carver), it didn't turn them into freaks & totally change their character.

For the Brits it seems like I remember a fair amount of the actors are British are they not?

I know Stringer Bell is. Isn't McNulty Irish or something? I guess that's technically not being British. And Carcetti.

Nah, McNulty is posh British, Stringer Bell is ghetto British & Carcetti is Irish. There was someone else who apparently was, I think it might have been Freamon although I'm not sure

my wife bought me the first boxset of the wire last christmas , we then bought all the others pretty sharpish , but personally i thought the last series was a bit to far fetched , as for BAND OF BROTHERS , i lost interest after the 640000 episode lol utter drivel.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, just finished the last season. Freamon isn't British. He's American, but has lived in GB since the 70s. He's on the show Treme now.

On the subject of british actors in these HBO shows, if anyone has seen the equally brilliant Oz, there are a number of british actors in it. One of the main men,forget the characters name (kareem?) but he was a bad-ass muslim leader and one of the main characters, was a guy called eamonn walker who,unbelievabely, played alf garnetts gay home-help in 'In sickness and in health'

It was hilarious listening to McNulty not be able to do a British accent. The guy who played the big African on Oz is British, but every movie I've ever seen him in except the one with 50 Cent he's played an African.

Your man Kareem or whatever his name was, actually won some big award for playing the first black Hamlet or some other shakespearian character. Was watching 'Ghostbusters' with my kid the other day and again i near shit when i seen Ernie Hudson (the governor)as one of the ghostbusters. There are loads of guys in that 'Oz' that you know and have seen before but cant remember where. Great show mate
