I've seen fighters come in over-weight before, but this one is very strange.
Mayweather 146, Marquez 142
LAS VEGAS - The long-awaited weighin for Mayweather-Marquez showdown finally took place at 3:15 p.m. Pacific Time at the MGM Grand's Garden Arena, the site for Saturday's 12-round welterweight fight.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. weighed in at 146 pounds, his usual weight for the welterweight limit.
Juan Manuel Marquez tipped the 142 pounds, just two pounds over the junior welterweight limit.
Since the fight was made in May of this year, there has been speculation as to how much the fighters were contracted to weighin.
The Mayweather camp maintained that it was a welterweight bout with the usual 147-pound limit, while Golden Boy Promotions, the promoter for Saturday's fight, claimed that the fighters agreed to a 144-pound catchweight.
Obviously, Team Mayweather was right. It is not known if the Mayweather side agreed to pay Team Marquez any bonus/penalty money for every pound that Mayweather came in over 144 pounds. According to Keith Kizer of the Nevada State Athletic Commission there is no such agreement.
From the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas for tomorrow night’s “Number One/Numero Uno” card promoted by Golden Boy Promotions & Mayweather Promotions, televised on HBO-PPV:
Floyd Mayweather 146 vs. Juan Manuel Marquez 142*
* Contractual weight was the 147 pound welter limit, but penalties were written into the contract for excess poundage over 144. ”The penalty [for Mayweather] was a significant amount of money,” said Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer.
Chris John 126 vs. Rocky Juarez 126
Michael Katsidis 135 vs. Vicente Escobedo 134
Orlando Cruz 126 vs. Cornelius Lock 125
Said Ouali 146 vs. Francisco Rios 148
Erislandy Lara 155 vs. Jose Varela 156
Jessie Vargas 140 vs. Raul Tovar 141
Dion Savage 167.5 vs. Loren Myers 167.5
Mike Perez 133 vs. Richard Ellis 133

Why was 144 mentioned so much then? I'm getting calls and texts so it's certainly not been well known it was at the Welter limit, I never seen anything but 144 mentioned on here or in the 24/7 or in any press event. Wait till everyone orders the fight then drop the bomb! Arseholes
This is just Floyd as a pure Welter it's such a mis-match it's untrue.
If PBF jr. is 2 lbs. over the 144lb agreed upon catchweight, as we all by now ascertained, then why is there no protestations from the JMM camp for the perceived excess weight?
Something's not intact here... The handling and media provided for the weigh-in, for this fight, is apparently subpar. Loose handles provide the worst grip!
The enthusiasm of promoters/handlers of this fight must have been stymied by the less than expected trunout. I would hate for a negative bombshell in the news once they figure the math or number of $$$ will not make a GO feasible.
I would hope it is all is set for tomorrow's GO for Number One vs Numero Uno! It's too late otherwise for another postponement anyway!
All the best for tomorrow... nonetheless!
Tomorrow night Floyd will be 149.
Marquez will lose a pound to 141.
HBO didn't want the weigh-in too embarrassing so they gave Marquez a chance to go and eat doughnuts for an hour and try to make weight again![]()
