I'm very left-wing in some areas and right-wing in others. Primarily I would say I'm left wing, but I don't understand how some people can be so wedded to an ideology that they're completely one or the other.

Well, I'm against monarchies...
I believe in stiff punishment for some crimes. I've always heard libertarianism referred to as a right-wing ideology; now I'm not a libertarian, but I believe people should pretty much be able to do what they want in their private lives (ie legalization/decriminalization of drugs etc.).
Edit: I'm also against a stong, centralized government. That's something I've always associated with the American right-wing, so I guess that could be considered a right-wing belief as well, though it seems to run counter to most right-wingers opinions.
I didn't mean anyone specific, it was just a general statement.

That seems pretty libertarian to me. Which I think is the "best" way to go in many aspects. But all systems are flawed and corruptible, because all systems are run by people.
I think the government should have control over companies and get rid of the gluttonous wealth that individual people to possess enough wealth and power to and then afford lobbyists to control the government, at least in aspects that benefit them. But that's exactly why it will never happen, because by nature those with wealth want to protect and maintain that wealth.
But that's where a governments power should stop. Probably about 1 cent out of every tax dollar that goes into the government ever comes out doing what it was "intended" for. The other $0.99 rest up funneled out through various channels of waste, bureaucracy, and corruption.
The US is pretty much influenced by special interest groups that don't represent the average citizen. Politicians are influenced by the special interests/lobbyists or else they don't get re-elected or votes.
In my opinion, speaking on America only, most voters are pretty ignorant and don't realize that for whatever they vote for they are just perpetuating the system already in place.
That's why I don't vote![]()

This brings us to a more important subject.

Pretty much an independent.Have views on either side of the spectrum and believe people get to tied up in party affiliation, doctrin.
Pro immigration, pro choice...think alot of the zealots would have sounder footing if they cared as much anfd fought as hard for the infants, young kids living in extreme poverty and being raised in shooting galleries just as equally but I am not opposed to the right top bare arms.Think the homeless get shit on and contrary to somes views...its not a choice for some!.....not for afirmative action,I think many of who shout racism at the drop of a hat do the past generations a disservice.I like peace. But there is a time to fight...not in favor of Iraq conflict and think Bush was a puppet on strings ...but believe we should have turned areas of Afghanistan into parking lots and taken off the PC gloves.I'm heinz 57 I guess you can say.
Lean heavy in favor of enviroment as well and think we are in too much of a hurry to build, build, build with little foresight. How many empty strip malls do you pass while driving??I partake in da herb but heres one.....would not be in favor of legalization.Last thing I want is the Federal Government growing my shite

I'm with ya on Afghanistan, Spicoli. I think the unified forces largely missed the boat on that now. I know a lot of Canadians are whining about being there, but I think we needed to be there from the get-go. Could have cut the head off that extremist body before it began growing arms all over the place.
Then again, I don't have anyone I know in Afghanistan, or have personally lost people as other Canadians in that fight, so I suppose it is subjective.
